"Erick? Don't wander off too far," Zelda called, looking up from her book,
"Yes, mom," he called back before returning to the huge drawing he was creating in the dirt. He had recieved her artistic ability, even though he was only 6. The fact that he preferred dirt over parchment leaned more towards Link, though. He had decided he was going to make a life size scene on the field outside Castle Town,
"Don't worry, Zel. You're a tough guy, aren't you?" Link said as he approached them. Erick looked up with a determined look,
"Oh yeah! I'm almost seven whole years old! I'm strong, Mom!" He called, standing and flexing with a large grin. She chuckled,
"Wow! You are!" She said, smiling and closing her book. Erick nodded excitedly,
"Someday, I'll be able to fight the really bad stuff, like...like Cuccos!" He said. She broke out laughing,
"You've got him thinking they're evil!" She said to Link, who crossed his arms,
"Because they are..." He muttered before running towards Erick, who giggled and ran away. Zelda rolled her eyes and chuckled,
"Excuse me," she heard from behind her. She turned to see Sarth's apprentice, Arlo,
"Yes?" She asked,
"Prince Erick, it's time for your studies," he called to him. Erick stopped playing with Link and groaned,
"But mom!"
"Don't start, Erick. You know it won't work. Go on, the sooner you go the sooner it's over." She said, standing and walking over to him,
"Plus, you know the deal. Studies with your mom, and then it's my turn to teach you what I know," Link said, patting his shoulder. Erick beamed,
"Ok. Let's go mom!" He said, grabbing her hand and running forward. She laughed,
"I'll see you later," she called to Link before walking inside with her son.
"Today we're going to be focused on Spelling and writing," she said as the walked into his studies. He nodded and sat down at a large table. Zelda retrieved a few rolls of parchment and joined him. He pulled out a pencil as she pushed one towards him, "I want you to tell me all about what you did today, and your thoughts." He nodded and began. She watched over him as he wrote and corrected the few spelling errors he made. His handwriting was improving, she noticed,
"Keep going," she reminded him when he became distracted by the bird that landed on the window sill. He snapped out of it and continued,
"Mom, will you tell me about the Goddesses?" He suddenly asked, looking up at her. She was surprised,
"Why do you ask?" He shrugged,
"They've never come up in History," he said. It was true, she hadn't gone over the creation of Hyrule and the Goddesses much yet,
"What do you want to know?" He thought for a minute,
"I don't know. Everything," he said. She chuckled,
"Ok then, but you have to keep writing while I tell you. Deal?" He nodded and continued to write. She cleared her throat, "Well, as you know, we have four Goddesses; Farore, Nayru, Din, and the White Goddess Hylia. Now, Hylia and the other Goddesses created Hyrule long ago, and they left behind three sacred golden triangles, known as the triforce. It contained a power so divine, an evil spirit known as Demise sought to capture it. That is when Hylia and the Goddess' bird, known as a Loftwing, went down to the land in search of a hero to save them. They found the original Hero there, who's bravery and courage had no competition. With his help, Hylia managed to lock away the evil Demise and send her people to the ancient land of the sky to be protected. She sent the triforce with them." He looked up with a confused expression,
"But, we don't live in the sky. How did we get back?" He asked,
"Well, the Hero died while protecting the land, and Hylia promised him that his soul would be eternal. So he was reborn in the sky, and she joined him as a Hylian. Together, they discovered the land below and vanquished Demise. Then, the Hylians returned to the surface, which eventually grew into Hyrule." She explained. He nodded, thinking for a few minutes,
"Didn't you say you and Dad have the triforce? How did it get to you?" He finally asked, finishing his writing and putting his pencil down,
"You see, as the reborn hero went through his journey, the triforce of courage was blessed to him. Another piece, the triforce of wisdom, was for the incarnate of Hylia. Unfortunately, the triforce of power has lied in the hands of evil for far too long,"
"So, you are a de-" he paused, thinking of how to pronounce it. Zelda smiled, "descendent of the incarinate of Hylia?" She chuckled,
"Incarnate," she corrected, "And something like that," she read over his writing, and nodded in approval,
"Well, what about-?" He began,
"That's enough for today. I know your dad is eager to show you his tricks. We can talk some more about it later," She said, standing and kissing his forehead. His interest in history pleased her. He was well-rounded.
He jumped up and ran to the door, pulling it open,
"Come on Mama! I want to show you what I can do!" He said excitedly. She smiled,
"I'm coming, I'm coming,"
