PHILOSOPHER.
Chapter 24.
╚═══════════

Tonight, Mattheo manages to find his way much faster to the classroom and the mirror. He doesn't have to worry about slowing down for Delphini, and this is to be the third night that he's been here in a row. Sleep doesn't really matter to Mattheo at the moment, just seeing what the mirror could possibly show him this time.

Mattheo smiles goofily as he sees both his mother and his father looking back at him. They smile the same way that they have in the nights before.

Mattheo lowers himself to the floor and sits cross legged in front of the mirror.

"So, back again?" A voice asks of Mattheo.

Mattheo feels like ice water has just plunged over him. Every muscle in his body tenses up, and he can't bare to bring himself to turn around.

The voice chuckles.

Mattheo turns his head to see Albus Dumbledore sat in one of the desks in the corner, Mattheo had walked right past him in his haste to get to the mirror, and hadn't noticed the headmaster once.

"I'm sorry, sir, I didn't see you" Mattheo confesses to Dumbledore.

"Strange how short sighted invisibility can make you" Dumbledore smiles to Mattheo. "The world around you cannot notice you, so you stop paying attention to the world" Dumbledore's wise words make sense.

Mattheo is relieved to find that Dumbledore is in fact smiling at him. "Don't worry, Mattheo, I am not about to scold you" Dumbledore chuckles to the young boy.

Dumbledore rises from the desk, and Mattheo finds it prudent to stand also, a sign of respect. "You are simply following a curiosity that has piqued your interest. I myself have been known to follow curiosities into some rather dangerous places" Dumbledore muses.

Dumbledore waves his hand at the mirror, and a cloth cover forms over the mirror, so that neither of them will be tempted to look back into the hollowed reflections.

"You, like a select few before you have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised" Dumbledore tells Mattheo.

"I didn't know it was called that, sir" Mattheo tells Dumbledore. It is the first word that is stamped upon the rock surrounding the mirror.

"It has gone by many names; the mirror of Hesiod. The ghost mirror. The shadow of second life. The bone glass" Dumbledore tells Mattheo, and he hangs on every word. "An object that is deeply steeped in history" Dumbledore tells Mattheo.

Mattheo wonders how an ancient mirror has words readable in English, but then he remembered they're dealing with magic.

"I trust that by now you've realised what the mirror does?" Dumbledore asks Mattheo.

"It's shown me a lot of different things, but mainly my family and curing my sister. It showed Delphini our complete family being a real family" Mattheo starts to babble on a bit. "We thought it might be the future, but our family is dead, so maybe it shows us what we want to happen?" Mattheo tells Dumbledore.
