Hatred (CA/OK)

Oklahoma looked across the room.

After telling gov he was going to California due to the dust bowl he had offered to have the state meet California.

On the other side of the room was by far the prettiest boy he'd ever seen. California was tall, with brown hair, blue eyes. Anyone from a mile away could see the state's beauty.

"Hey!"

California's voice was soft and had a melodic sound to it.

"Oh- uh- Hi."

California laughed.

"Why so nervous? Lighten up a bit!"

Oklahoma had only heard about California through others, primarily through Texas who knew the other when the two were younger, or by states who had met the golden state on vacations to California.

"So I'm guessing your Oklahoma? Forgive me if I'm mistaken but I don't think we've met before!"

"Yeah I don't think we have, but uh yeah I am. You must be California?"

"Indeed! Most people call me Goldie or Cal though."

"Alright, most people call me Oklahoma."

California was like a fairytale prince come true. He was happy, passionate, confident, and a tad dramatic, but Oklahoma didn't mind that. He was used to dramatic states.

Oklahoma would hear California play love songs and wish they were for him. California would always get nervous when asked about who they were for.

The two were close, some would say to close.

"Cal when are ya finally goin to tell me who you're singing for."

"It doesn't matter Okie."

"Yea it does."

"If I told you you'd hate me."

"I'd only hate you if it was someone related to me, so I probably won't."

"What if-"

California looked up at the sky, the stars reflecting off of his eyes.

"What if I told you they were for you?"

Oklahoma looked at the other, California looked back at the other.

California leaned in near the other, leaving inches of space.

"I love you Oklahoma."

California dropped the guitar after being caught off guard by the other pulling him into a kiss.

"I love ya too darling."

Now Oklahoma could only look at the other and feel mad. California hadn't been the same in years. First came the cocaine epidemic, then he became a blue state, and if anything she became more dramatic, and developed many bad habits.

California was doing much better. They had the largest population, a large economy, and were even doing stuff other states wouldn't dare to do, that was something Oklahoma used to love about California. How he wanted to be the change in the world. Granted sometimes California's policies were morally gray at best during that era, but she tried.

California seemed to glance at the other during today's meeting. Oklahoma felt disgusted. Maybe he was holding onto the grudge too much. Most people had forgiven or forgotten the attitude California had, and California made many attempts to apologize, but Oklahoma held grudges.

Today's meeting ended on a more positive note, no real big arguments, or gov looking like he was ready to down ibuprofen.

Oklahoma had picked up a job recently, it was a flexible job that allowed for him to adjust his hours easily.

That's when his phone rang.

He didn't recognize who it was as a simple "don't answer" didn't help, he had a lot of people in there as that. He had Texas, any west coast state, some east coast states, and some other southern states as that after all.

He answered the phone. I mean, why not?

He heard the sounds of hyperventilating, the other person on the line needed help, and he wasn't one to usually do that but they must be desperate if they chose to call him.

"Hey?"

"I'm sorry okie."

Oklahoma hung up immediately. He didn't want to talk to California ever again. He was still mad. He was still bitter, it all still felt like a new scar across his neck, like every time California talked it would rip open again. He felt so mad.

"Fucking California, that stupid fucking bitch."
