I awake with tears in my eyes and my body shaking from a cold sweat.
The dream seemed so real. Was this something from my past? I can't shake the feeling from my chest that the mansion I saw was real, and the event I saw took place.
"Gggggrrrrrhhhhh"
My stomach growls. I look past the bramble in my shelter and see dusk barely making its way past the dense forest surrounding me.
"Meow"
I look down at Fern to see a small green box on the ground in front of him. I bent down to look at it a bit closer, and to pat Fern on his head.
The box seems to be made out of leaves, but a small string holds it into its shape. I wonder for a second how on earth Fern could've made this.
How did he-?
There's so much I don't understand right now with all of the no-memories and all. Maybe
I'm being insane, but I feel like this is alright. Maybe this is normal, and I just am not used to it.
How would I know any different?
"Thank you Fern." I say to the kit ruffling the top of his head a bit.
I sit on the ground, as I imagine only a child would do, and open the small little box to reveal a small pastry of some sort. It was a round ball that smelled more like earth than I would imagine food would smell like.
After I tore the thing in half, hoping to maybe figure out what it was, a brownish-red paste was brought to my attention from inside the little bun.
The smell was slightly familiar I just couldn't place
"Meow"
"Huh?" I was brought out of my stupor just as quickly as I was brought into it by an urgent meow coming from Fern. He was walking out of the shelter into what was now twilight.
I, as I would, followed; moved by my unwitty mind hoping Fern would lead me to something that would put the pieces together.
I looked up at the sky. The moon was a small crescent making it so small compared to what I would think a crescent moon would look like. The stars surrounding the moon, however, were just as invisible as the moon itself; barely showing themselves in the night sky.
I proceeded to try and follow Fern, but couldn't find him in the shadows around me.
"Fer-" I quickly placed my hand over my mouth. If anyone was out there in the woods and knew I was looking for a black cat, wouldn't they think me a witch? I didn't want to end my fate before it was revealed to me.
I felt so close to my memories, as if they were like the stars and moon that night. They are just barely showing themselves and are going to show themselves perhaps in the next night or next moon.
"What are you doing out here?"
I turned, frightened by the sudden appearance of a stern voice.
"It's you eh, little miss?"
Oh no, he had mentioned that me being close to the wood could call witchcraft to question. In a panic I started running away from him not wanting him to question, or even follow me.
"I knew! You crass woman of darkness."
"You speak lies." I screamed back at him as I ran around a bend coming to an open field.
He huffs behind me, closing in, and reaching his arm towards me. Soon he grabs my arm to jerk me back barely letting my arm survive the process of stopping me. He pushes me down and grabs my hair.
I feel a sudden surge of energy and grab his wrist to twist my hair out from his grasp gaining just enough time to start running away again.
I managed to lose him by ducking into a shrub and running after I lost sight of him. I leaned against a tree to catch my breath and looked around me.
I was in a small little meadow in the midst of the forest with small slivers of moonlight and starlight finding their way through the leaves from only a handful of trees that dotted the space.
My gaze rested on a child. I could barely see him in the shadows, but I could tell he was reaching up at a tree limb.
I slowly inched slower to him, curious about who he was, but not wanting to scare him.
He looked at me and reached out his hand to stop me. His face frighted.
As my foot hit the ground I felt pain snap into my leg sending me to the ground in a small shout of pain.
The whole of my leg was burning with an intense pain while I laid there under the child who was standing above me. His forest green eyes teared up.
"Rose?" His shaky voice whispered "No, no."
I could hear Rupert far off, and the child ran away after hearing Rupert, and cried in pain when he was in the distance.
I couldn't hold back my tears as my conscience drifted out and in again making me feel weak and feeble. No, is this how I end?
Am I going to die, alone?
At least I'm underneath an asian pear tree.
I like asian pears.
So, did,...
Isiah.
