Out of my league (LA/MS)

Mississippi sat on a chair across from three other states in the basement of the state house. Across there was Louisiana, California, New York, and Nevada, the five sat in silence with a few occasional tapping noises, as an array of music played in the background.

If the song was really good maybe there would be some singing along from the western states and Louisiana but today it seemed the music selection was all songs they had over played to death.

The song slowed to a finish before California picked up his phone.

"You guys wanna try something new?

"Sure I guess."

"Eh."

"Fo sho."

Mississippi nodes in response to the question, he was the only one to not speak.

"Alright so I'm not even sure why Spotify recommended this song but might as well try it, it's not really any of the usual genres we listen to by the way."

"Alright."

California tapped his phone and than the music started.

More than just a dream

More than just a dream

40 days and 40 nights

I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life

The music wasn't really something Mississippi would listen too. Usually he could be found listening to jazz, country, or the blues, not this. The song wasn't bad though.

All the days I waited for you

You know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you

Mississippi listened to the lyrics, his mind wandering to one of the states present with him.

'Cause you were out of my league

All the things I believed

You were just the right kind

Yeah, you were more than just a dream

You were out of my league

Got my heartbeat racing

If I die, don't wake me

'Cause you are more than just a dream

Sometimes it felt like he wouldn't ever have a shot at love, most of the other states he was with had.

He had fallen for someone, yes, but someone way out of his league.

From time to time I pinch myself

Because I think my girl mistakes me for somebody else

And every time she takes my hand

All the wonders that remain

Become a simple fact

California tapped his fingers against each other.

Louisiana's foot hit down against the floor gently and repeatedly.

That you were out of my league

All the things I believed

You were just the right kind

Yeah, you were more than just a dream

You were out of my league

Got my heartbeat racing

If I die, don't wake me

'Cause you are more than just a dream

You were out of my league

All the things I believed

You were just the right kind

Yeah, you were more than just a dream

You were out of my league

Got my heartbeat racing

If I die, don't wake me

'Cause you are more than just a dream

More than just a dream

Mississippi looked at Louisiana, who seemed to be enjoying himself. He always did. He doesn't think he's ever seen Louisiana upset, at least not when he's with him.

(More than, more than)

(More than, more than)

(More than, more than)

More than just a dream

(More than, more than)

(More than, more than)

As the song repeated he couldn't help but think.

(More than, more than)

More than just a dream

(More than, more than)

(More than, more than)

(More than, more than)

More than just a dream

Louisiana was just a dream, an unobtainable one at that.
