4 months later
'Joe, wake up.' I say, sitting up.
'What's wrong?' He asks, rubbing his eyes and running his hand through his hair.
'The baby's coming.' I say.
'Okay right, I'll get the bag and I'll quickly put a top and trousers on.' Joe says.
Once he's got everything on he helps me downstairs and into the car.
'Joe, hurry up and drive.' I say.
'I am babe!' He says trying his best, bless him.
'How much longer?' I ask.
'Another 2 minutes.' Joe replies.
He parks the car nearest the entrance and we walk in.
I get given a wheelchair and Joe follows the midwife to a room.
'Have you got your notes?' The midwife asks.
'Joe has them.' I say and Joe gets them out of the overnight bag.
'Okay, your not ready quite yet but we'll give you some gas and air for a while and we'll check on you later.' The midwife says.
'Are you in pain?' Joe asks and I nod my head.
'I feel useless.' He adds and take my hand, running circles with his thumb.
'Your not useless.' I say taking the gas and air away from my mouth.
'I texted Zoe and Alfie but they probably won't get it for about another hour or so.' Joe says and I nod.
'How are you feeling?' He asks.
'I'm actually quite hungry.' I say.
'Shall I see if I can get some food?' He asks and I nod.
A while later Joe comes in with some cereal for me and him.
'We're not ready yet, but, hopefully in a couple more hours you'll be ready.' The midwife says.
'Okay, thank you.' I say and she leaves the room.
'Zoe just texted me to ask if she can come, she won't bring Alfie.' Joe asks.
'Yea, she can come if she wants.' I say and Joe texts her back.
About twenty minutes later Joe goes down to the reception to meet Zoe and take her up to the room.
'Nice room.' Zoe jokes, walking in.
'I already hate it.' I say.
'At least it's not like friends when you have other people coming in and then Janice is next to you.' Zoe says.
'I know!' I say.
A couple of hours pass and still no baby until the midwife soon comes in.
'Ella, that's you ready now, if you don't mind sitting outside miss.' The midwife says to Zoe.
'Joe, I'm nervous.' I say as he takes hold of my hand.
'It's okay, I'm right here.' He says kissing my forehead.
'Ella, are you ready to push?' The midwife asks and I nod and do so.
About an hour later and I'm still pushing and am now very tired.
'I can see the baby's head now Ella, just a couple more pushes and it'll be out, your doing well, I know your tired.' The midwife says smiling at me.
'Do you want a drink?' Joe asks and I nod, taking a sip of the water.
A couple of minutes later and you can hear the crying of a baby, and not just any baby, mine and Joe's baby.
'Congratulations, you have a baby boy!' The midwife says, they let Joe cut the umbilical cord and hand the baby to me.
'Oh my goodness!' I say starting to cry.
'He's gorgeous!' I say, Joe coming over to see him.
'Do you want to hold him?' I ask Joe and he nods his head whilst I gently give him to Joe.
'I'm so tired.' I say leaning back on the bed.
'Why don't you try get some sleep?' Joe suggests.
'I will later.' I say.
'Shall I let Zoe in?' Joe asks and I nod.
'Oh my goodness!' Zoe says smiling, coming into the room.
'Have you got a name yet?' Zoe asks.
'Not really I think we're going to decide that later.' I say.
~
'I better get going.' Zoe says a couple of hours later.
'Okay, I meant to say, Joe can you find out when I'm aloud to leave?' I ask and he nods and tries to find the midwife.
'If you want you can come to ours later if your out as its only 4pm.' Zoe says.
'Yea, I'll text you later if I'm aloud out tonight.' I say.
'Okay, bye!' She says giving me a hug.
'By Zo, tell Alfie I say hi.' I say.
'Hello Ella, how are you feeling?' The midwife asks.
'I'm feeling alright.' I say.
'Well, good news your aloud out today.'
'Really! That's great!' I say.
'Well I'll see you later!' The midwife says and walks away.
'I'm just going to get changed and then we can leave.' I say to Joe and he nods.
'Ready?' Joe asks and I nod, Joe picks up the overnight bag and I pick up the baby, Isaac.
We walk out of the hospital and start a new chapter.
