Gary wasn't usually one to sit alone on his phone like a melancholic, but something was keeping him up at 3:32 in the morning. That something was Ash. (Don't text people at 3 in the morning, just saying)

Gary: Hey

Ash: Hey.
What are you doing texting me at 3:34 in the morning?

Gary: I don't know, I just wanted to talk with you.

Ash: What is there to talk about?

At this point Gary wanted to say "IYU" but he didn't. Then this happened.

Gary: Are you going to leave to go to the other regions soon?

Ash: Yea, Y?

Gary: Just wanted to check.
My gramps told me about it and I wanted to ask you.

Ash: Since when did you care where I went?

Gary: Idk, I have to go to sleep.
Working in the lab tomorrow.

Ash: Thanks for waking me up to have a ten minute conversation.

And so the weeks passed until the day Ash set off to go through Kanto and the other Regions. He wouldn't be back for 6 years. This left Gary with an unsettling feeling.

"Hey! Ash wait up!"

"What is it Gary? I need to leave Pallet town in about an hour."

"Here, take this." Gary handed him a broken half of a Pokeball. "Do you remember that?"

"Yeah, I do" Ash responded. "I still have my half." He dug it out of his bag.

"Can I borrow that for a second?" asked Gary

"Sure" Gary then preceded to take both halves and put them together. He also slipped in a little note.

"Here you go Ash." "Could you open it sometime half way through your journey?"

"Sure." And before Ash could say anything more, Gary had ran back to the lab.

Ash was already half way into Unova when he remembered the Pokeball. He finally opened it. Inside was a Poke Letter. It read:

Wasting Time, Wasting Love

Will I ever say those three simple words?
I can't lose you to someone else, please wait.
I need to say those words so please wait please,
Wait for me as I waste time and waste love.

When will the day I confess to you come?
It seems like forever, like eternity
I start to lose hope, but I still love you.
Why must I stand here wasting time and love?

Would you believe me if I told you this?
I really love you, but I don't know why?
I really miss you, but I can't see you.
Why do I waste time and love while you leave?

Will I finally say "I love you?"
Will I stop wasting love and wasting time?
-Gary Oak.
I miss you Ash. I love you Ash. See you in six years.
