~Chapter 15~

{Akane's POV}
I was so glad they let me leave, Shinya and I walked down to the room. As soon as we got there I grabbed some clothes from my dresser and rushed to the bathroom. I heard Shinya plop himself in his bed, which was the top bunk, probably because he didn't want me to hurt myself getting up there. I took a shower and put my hospital gown in my basket, since Shinya had one to. I pulled my socks on and went out of the bathroom. I rummaged through the provided necessities for me and found a hair brush, I jerkily tugged through my hair that was getting longer and after I finished I looked around for my shoes. I looked by the door but didn't see them. "Shinya do you know where my shoes could be?" I asked. "Hmm, well did you look in your dresser?" He asked in return, I looked through my dresser and in the last drawer I found them. "You were right, they were in the bottom drawer" I said smiling, but he couldn't see me because he was still laying down on his bed. "What are we doing today?" Shinya asked, "No clue" I said neatening up my stuff. "On the desks there's the same schedule so just look on one of them and see please" he said. "Yeah no problem" I walked over to the desk and looked at the paper "It says that we are doing our daily running and then we are doing hand to hand combat practice" I said "We should get going, we aren't going to get breakfast before we start if we don't go now" I said double checking the times on the paper. When I turned around Shinya was right behind me, I smiled awkwardly "Lets get going then" he said smiling.
We walked down to the cafeteria and I tried to memorize the path Shinya lead. Once we got there we got in line for a normal breakfast of oatmeal and toast. We sat down at a empty table across from each other and ate in silence. He finished before me and just sat there staring at me. I could feel myself blush and in quickly finished my food. He took both our trays and took them to the tray drop off. As he walked back he smiled at me, I smiled back. "You sure you're ready for this?" He asked me once he got back into hearing range. " Yup, it's no worse than it was training to be and enforcer" I said smiling. "Yeah but you weren't recovering from a bullet wound" he said. "Don't think that will stop me" I said looking into his blue gray eyes. "Okay, just so you know, if you can't handle it just tell me and I'll stay with you and walk" he said returning the stare. I smiled, "okay" I said and looked away. Some lady came walking in, clicking her teal stilettos every step. "Who is that?" I tried to whisper into Shinya's ear, he bent down so I could. "What?" He said whispering. "Who is that?" I whispered into his ear. "Oh" he said whispering into my ear, I could feel his warm breath. "That's Elle. She's the one in charge around here. I don't think she likes us..." he said. I moved so I could whisper in his ear but still face Elle. "Why?" I asked. "I think she likes me... but I don't have the same feelings so she hates us both..." he said, he straightened up when Elle looked our direction. "Akane I'm so glad you're better!" She said clicking over to me. "We haven't properly met. I'm Elle, head in charge of this base" she took my hand. I shook it. "And I'm Akane Tsunemori, which you already know..." I said but she had lost interest in our conversation. She glared at Shinya. Okay then, she really does hate us. Even though she's trying to be nice to me, she really hates me. She walked off and all the troops followed. Shinya and I did the same. "Why does she hate me? I get that she's mad at you for not liking her but I don't understand why she's mad at me..." I said more to myself but Shinya answered "It's because I like you... *love you" he said looking forward. "Shinya I-" I was cut off by Elle. She looked back and saw me blushing. "Akane would you like to join us in the car?" She said smiling. Oh I see she's trying to split me and Shinya apart. I though to myself. I looked at Shinya. "Well go, I get it. Talk to you at the other base" he said smiling. I got it to, it wasn't a request it was an order. I dragged my self over to Elle who towered over me In her stilettos. She put her hands on my shoulders and practically shoved me into the jeep. Two older men sat in the front, probably some other generals. Elle was clingy and I wanted to be with Shinya, I wanted to smoke, I wanted to talk to Gino. I smiled and tried not to look sick being with her.Once the car stopped I practically flung myself out of the car, I left Elle in the dust.
I looked in the crowd for Shinya I didn't see him, I kept looking. Pushing past middle aged men and women, seeking for him. I thought I saw him but as the man turned around it wasn't him. I stopped and stood there looking in a circle.
There were hands on my hips that came from behind. I flinched and flipped around. "What the-" I said but then I realized it was Shinya. "Hey, sorry I scared you" he said smiling while running his hand through his hair. "Its okay" I said also running my hand through my hair which snagged in tangles so I had to jerk my hand out of my hair through the knots. I laughed awkwardly and smiled.
He ran his hand through my hair and gently pulled through some of the tangles. I wished I had a hair tie, my short hair was all in my face. He noticed my frustration with my hair and pulled it behind my ears, which he then pulled my head to rest on his chest. I could hear my heart pounding, I could feel his pounding too. We were hidden in the crowd of people so Elle couldn't see us. She told every one to quiet down and then ordered us to start running. I did and so did Shinya, we stayed at the same pace, well he stayed the same pace as me. My stomach burned and I was winded, he was running fine, breathing easily. His eyes focused on where we were going. My stitches hurt and burned, but I kept running, running along side Shinya. I controlled my breathing and kept going. My sides felt like jello and I new I was going to be sore.
I made it, we stopped in front of the primary base after doing 6 laps around the secondary base. I put my hands on my knees and breathed heavily, I could hear Shinya panting too. He put his hand on my back, "Are you okay" he asked. "Sure" I said in between breaths. I stood and his hand followed along my back. He looked at me, "Yes. Just winded." I said trying to smile. "Okay..." he said looking at me skeptically.
After that we went and did hand to hand combat, I had some woman who was a little older than I to go against, she was aggressive but I use tact and avoided most of her punches, I swung a couple times but she got the jump on me and punched me right in the face, she won. I lost, and I would have a bruise to show for it. As soon as Shinya saw me, he was frowning. "I lost" I said puffing,sitting down. He was still quiet. "I'm fine. Just a bruise" I said looking into his eyes. He put his hand on my face, it was cold and felt good on my bruise. "Just be more careful next time. Okay?" He said "Okay." I said hiding behind my hair, looking at the ground. He put his hand in my chin and locked eyes with me, he smiled. I took a step back, backing out of his hand. "Lets go get dinner" I said smiling back. "Yeah" he said standing next to me.
After dinner we went back to the room. I flung my self into bed and welcomed its warmth and softness. I could hear shinya settling on the top bunk. Should I say something? I thought but then immediately shoved the thought to the back of my mind and thought how crazy I sounded. Just go to sleep. You're so stupid I screamed in my head. I stuffed my head into my pillow and tried to sleep.
"Akane" I heard Shinya say. I could feel my cheeks get hot. I flipped over, looking at the bottom of the top bunk. "Yeah" I said in a loud whisper. "How is Gino doing?" He asked. "Well he's and enforcer now... but I think he's fine..." I said hesitant "And Masaoka is... dead?" He said quietly. "Yeah... You leaving and Masaoka dying was what pushed Gino off the edge... And apparently before any of that shit happened his psycho-pass was already over acceptable levels..." I said, Masaoka was like a second father to Shinya... "Shinya, I'm sorry..." I said quietly. "Its been 2 almost 3 years since its happened... I made my peace with his death. And I bet you're wondering what my hue is. The last time I checked it was powder blue... Makishima was really screwing with my head. It's so weird for it to be so low..." he said. "That's good... The only problem I had with you killing Makishima was the fact that you would killed by sibyl and I didn't want that..." I said pulling the covers up over my face. "I didn't want Makishima to hurt you... or anyone else for that fact, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if you died..." he said in a steady almost angry voice. I flipped the covers of my head and sighed, "Well he's dead now, it's not healthy to live in the past, it risks our hues getting clouded" I said feeling like a broken record because that's what everyone says. Shinya was quiet, I could hear him breathing. There's no point in making him mad. I rolled over tried to sleep but being with my thoughts I just couldn't. I flipped off my covers and sat up, I had to pee. I got up and went to the bathroom. I got back into bed. I heard Shinya shift in his bed and I went stiff I closed my eyes and pretended I was asleep, which was stupid because he couldn't see me. "Akane?" Shinya said, "Yeah?" I said quietly. " Want to go smoke?" He asked. "Yes" was all I said, he slid down off the top bunk and stood next to me, I walked over to the door and grabbed his shoes and handed them to him I grabbed my own and pulled them on and tied them. He grabbed his jacket and helped me into it. I smiled and pulled his box of cigarettes from his pocket, I looked at them and stuffed them back into the pocket. "Is there a curfew?" I ask, "I don't think so, we have a lot more freedom. We could leave the base I'm pretty sure if we wanted but it's better to stay here" he said looking at me. "Coolio" I said. We walked side by side as Shinya led the way to the exit doors, the men standing guard just looked our room cards that doubled as an ID and they let us out. A dim street light lit the dark cool out side,I could see my breath swirl in puffs every time I breathed out. We walked over to the bench that was all by its lonesome with a yellowish street light lighting up the area. I sat down and Shinya sat next to me leaving four inches in-between us. I pulled the box of cigarettes out of one pocket and the lighter out of another, I handed them to Shinya. He handed me a cigarette. He lit his and took a long drag and handed me the lighter, I lit mine and we sat there in silence. We finished and put our buds in the trash. We sat back down. I scootched closer to Shinya and put my head on his shoulder, he put his arm on my back and loosely held my side with his hand. I could feel his breathing and his warmth. I closed my eyes and listened to the crickets chirp. The wild was picking up and it go cooler. I felt wet droplets seeping through my hair to my scalp. I lifted my head up and Shinya's hand stayed at my side. "We should go inside" I said looking up at the dark gray sky. "Yeah" he said flipping his jackets hood over my head. We stood up and walked inside and to our living corders. Once we got inside our apartment I pulled off Shinya's jacket and hung it up. I flipped my shoes off and so did Shinya. I got into bed and flopped like a fish on dry land trying to get comfortable. I ended up on my back with my hands in my hair. Shinya was looking at something at the desk so there was a dim glow from the desk light. I covered my eyes with my palms of my hands and just listened, I couldn't hear the rain in the half submerged underground base. I sighed and rolled around some more before giving up and just laid like a mummy. Which wasn't comfortable at all, so I shifted around some more. I was on my side facing Shinya and when I looked over I realized the glow was gone but I was still light enough to see him. I looked over at him I realized he was staring at me. "Can't get comfortable?" He said laughing a little bit "Yeah, I don't know what it is, I can't sleep either..." I said sitting up. Shinya stood up "Here move over" he said getting in bed with me, he laid down close next to me. I rested my head on his chest and put my hands next to my head. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and gripped my arm lightly. He moved his other hand to interlock one of mine and I held his hand on his chest. "Goodnight" he said in a husky voice. "Goodnight Shinya" I said letting in the darkness. Having a dream instead of a nightmare.
