Chapter 10: Note From The Purists

"Come on. Let's get to this movie before -"

"You'll have to eat and go." That fills me with dread. Did he hear something?

"What? Why!? I thought -"

"Have you seen the time? It's almost midnight." He tells me with disbelief.

"What are you talking about? We dropped Zara off just after seven, fucked and then you made me a sandwich. It's half eight tops!"

"That's what I thought. But look..." He points to the clock on the wall and it's saying midnight exactly. I pull my cell out and look.

"Maybe the batteries are dead, because... it... can't..." What the fuck!? My cell says it's midnight too. I look at him stunned.

"Nothing bad happened, so let's chalk it down to magic. Maybe because we're about to turn eighteen? Would also help explain why I can smell you more strongly than ever before. We will try to figure it out tomorrow, I'm surprisingly tired." He says with a yawn.

"I could always stay -" I start to suggest.

"Not tonight, babe. Mom messaged me hours ago and said she needs to speak with me before I leave in the morning -"

"Well, I could wait in the car -"

"She specifically told me that you couldn't stay tonight. Just in case I made you late or something." Fuck! What does she see that she's keeping him away from me?

"Alright then!" I huff, grabbing the sandwich and eating it.

"Don't be mad, babe."

"I'm not. I'm gonna take this with me. I'll see you at college tomorrow." I say getting up and heading for the front door. I only live down the road, next to the pack house.

"Kaiden!"

"I'll see you tomorrow," I say, turning to kiss him before I leave. It doesn't take me long to get home, and when I do Dad is in his office working still, and Mom is in bed already.

"A bit late isn't it?" My dad calls out.

"I was going to stay at Zye's, but his mum said not tonight. I didn't realise the time is all." I yell back.

"Come here." He demands. With a sigh, I walk back to his office and go in.

"Yes, sir."

"We have been getting increased activity from shifter purists on the southern border. A note was left for us. Here!" He hands me the note and I read it.

Dear Kings of death valley territory.
We know of the power you are hiding and demand you hand it over, someone that pure and powerful must have been sent for us. We have agents in place to start taking the young false mates, and making an example out of them. They are disgusting and shouldn't be allowed to shame the goddess, by having a mate not meant for them. That she did not pick out for them herself. Hand over the power and we will consider leaving your territory alone.
P.S. For added incentive, you should know that your son and his mate are first on our LIST of wrongful matings. Keep a close eye on him. Won't you!

Oh fuck! It has to be a coincidence. They must think me and Zye are mates as we're in a relationship and he's part witch. I gulp and look up at my dad.

"Well?! Is there something I should fucking know about, Kaiden? Have you met your mate? Are they a Panther? Bear? A fucking chimpanzee? What?!"

"Just tell him!" Spirit jumps at the opportunity to tell him. He just doesn't get it!

"Do you see how angry he is?! And the fact he didn't mention dragons! He might just kill her for them! Plus how does anyone know but me and her at the moment?"
