You stretched your tense muscles and groaned in ecstasy before you tried to adjust your helmet.

These rinky dink head protectors were grossly mass-produced and, in doing so, didn't leave a whole lot of room for comfort.

You glanced around the camp, watching soldiers perform P.T., marching, or moving to complete personal tasks. It reminded you of home, all of these men in one place preparing for an imminent battle in a larger war.

You preferred close quarters, but that's how you always fought. These ranged weapons take a lot of getting used to, but you can confidently say that any blade you wield will outgun any man with a firearm.
Hell, 50 years ago, you were doing exactly that, throwing knives at bandits so you could take their stolen cash for yourself.

You stood in a lineup with Leo as you waited for the introduction. Leo had long black hair, refusing to cut it for god knows what reason. You were both the same height, a solid 7'0", which caused a lot of people to stare. You were both big burly men, having been trained for war since you were old enough to enlist.

The other recruits in the line laughed or conversed while you and Leo stood patiently, stretching or staring at leaves. You both stood on either side of another recruit shorter than everyone else, let alone the both of you. He was quite literally half your height.

While you and Leo looked like you were meant to be here, if not already out in the war, the skinny man looked like he belonged in a library, stacking books on shelves.

You breathed in the fume-filled air, reminiscent of the times you spent in large open fields just smelling the fresh air. Hearing Leo speak pulled you out of your thoughts,

"Fighting in a war at your size? You either have some really big balls or you're a fucken nutcase."

You looked over with furrowed eyebrows as he spoke to the shorter man,

"I don't like bullies. Don't care where they're from."

Leo chuckled as he gave him a pat on the back,

"Nutcase it is."

You shook your head with a small smile as the skinny man gave a slight side nod in agreement.

Leo and yourself had been by each other's side for thousands of years. After Alec left to rule Elysium and Tartarus in your absence, the two of you have been inseparable.

You continued to gaze around the camp before Leo looked over and spoke to you,

"Think this'll be like Thermopylae?"

You looked over with a raised eyebrow,

"If I remember correctly, which I do, the Spartans got their asses handed to them."

He shrugged and looked forward,

"Yeah, but they were all remembered."

"Alright, name me one Spartan that died in Thermopylae."

The skinny man between the both of you spoke,

"King Leonidas."

You sighed and looked down dejectedly,

"That's on me. I set the bar too low."

Leo chuckled before another voice called out,

"Recruits! Attention!"

The other recruits stood at attention while you and Leo looked over curiously. You were both already standing upright with good posture, and it's not like people tend to notice in the first place.
