"Katherine?" Alessio said just at the precise moment I muttered. "Me?"

The two police officers and Alessio all turned to look at me in unison.

"Why are you looking for her?" Alessio said and snatched the picture from their hand. He sounded just a tad too defensive. If I had been a few feet closer to him I would have put my hand on his shoulder to calm him down.

Standing across the room in the archway between the foyer and kitchen I too was just as curious. Why did they want me? It was probably just Dad trying to track me down, why he didn't just call me I had no clue though.

The two officers both moved to advance towards me but Alessio put an arm out to stop them. "You can't just come in here-"

"It's okay Alessio." I said and walked across the foyer. "I'm sure it's no big deal." I turned to the two men with a polite, but cautious, smile. "What can I help you boys with?"

"Miss Santoro we're going to have to ask you to come with us. We've got a few questions."

I could feel Alessio glaring at me through the back of my head. "Only if you guys promise to drive with the sirens on." I said and followed them out.

Alessio grabbed my wrist. "Katherine."

"It's fine." I said quickly. "My dad and uncle are both cops. I feel totally comfortable around these guys." I assured him as I followed the cops out. I put my wrists out to them. "Wanna cuff me too?" I teased but neither looked amused.

I shrugged and followed them to the car, where they did indeed use the lights and sirens to drive me to the station.

They didn't mess around with formalities when we arrived to the station. They brought me into an interrogation room and got straight to the point.

Two hours of repetitive questions later I had my head on the table. "I already told you!" I groaned into the wood of the table. I lifted my head inches. "I don't have anything to do with the damn Mafia!"

The officer in front me was relentless. In a twisted series of miscommunications I was the one suspected of foul play and not Alessio. If I wasn't so pissed off right now I might have found the situation quite hilarious.

"Let's just say what our lead investigator of organized crime has to say about this." He said and as if on cue the door swung open. I glanced up with little interest but sat up quickly upon seeing a familiar face.

I scanned his features immediately. The tanned skin, the dark hair, even with his head down and focused on the folder he was skimming through I could still see the gentle curve of his cheek bones and the way his skin fell from them and into a strong jaw and slightly pointed chin. He pursed his lips in interest at whatever he was reading and the dimples formed immediately beside his lips.

I looked him up and down. He looked different in the dark blue uniform. His uniform was short sleeves and because of that I could see that he had colorful tattoos running halfway down one arm. I looked to his badge, proudly perched on his chest and then to the gun on his waist. This look was much different from the one I had last seen him with. As much as I had grown accustomed to the Mafioso's dress suits, he looked quite different without the suit and the gun coming into my head.

Matteo glanced up from the files he was looking in and his icy blue eyes connected to mine. I was sufficiently confused.

"Mat-" I started.
