Chapter 40: Holidays

I did not notice that time was flying just before my eyes because of the final term. This line feels déjà vu, doesn't it? Parang kailan lang ay nag-eenroll ako as freshman sa first sem, now I'm almost done with it.
It's Christmas eve! And it has been a month since Lucas last slept in my parents' house. The first and the last time this year because he told me he was so shy after that, even though I told him it was fine with my parents. We didn't do anything anyway.
Lucas is very wholesome even though he constantly annoys me with his satirical rebuttal to every thing he thinks is stupid and obvious. I didn't like to admit it but he was getting on my nerves since I met him; Minsan kasi 'yong tingin niya sa isang tao ay para bang iniisip niya kung tanga ba 'yon. He was infuriating and interesting at the same time.
I'm also getting used to his 'IDGAF' attitude; I utterly believe that it is what makes me drown into him. 'Cause who would have thought that under his cold demeanor lies an embodiment of a smartass guy?—Ugh, contemplating about him just makes me want to see him now.
Lucas flew to Japan with his parents two days ago, which meant that we would not be together this holiday. It was kind of sad that I wouldn't be able to see and hug him this Christmas, but he also wanted to go to Japan, and although he did not verbally say it, I could feel that he did really want to go. I mean, who am I to stop him? I'm not his girlfriend. I'd also love to see him enjoying this holiday, 'cause for real, his course program is no joke.
I glimpsed at my phone for the nth time again, waiting for his message. He told me that he would call me this evening, but until now ay wala pa rin kahit isang message from him. He must be enjoying his tour in Japan.
Ano kayang ginagawa niya doon ngayon? Bakit hindi pa niya ako kino-contact?
I unconsciously pouted my lips.
Hoy, Ceska! Napaka-clingy mo naman ata ngayon! Sabunutan kita d'yan!
I rolled my eyes with my mental conversation with none other than myself.
I am so sick, Lucas! What have you been up to there in Japan?
I crossed my arms while looking at the window. Nasa bahay ako ng Lolo at Lola sa San Ildefonso. Kami kami lang ang nandito at naghahanda para sa noche buena mamayang hating-gabi. I have done my part. I made vegetable salad and coffee jelly for appetizer and dessert. Other than that, wala naman na akong ibang alam lutuin para sa malaking handaan.
While I was spacing out, my phone lit up and I saw a message, but it was not from him.
Esther Marie: Girl! I have chika! —10:03PM
Me: Ano yon, sis? —10:04PM
Esther Marie: I prepared a present kasi for someone, kaso hindi ko knows if he'd like it. —10:05PM
Me: What's it? Discreet ba yan? Baka mamaya kabalahuraan yan! Hahahaha—10:06PM
Esther Marie: Hindi! Gaga! Ganyan ba tingin mo sakin?! 😤 hahahaha—10:07PM
Me: Medyo hahahaha! Emz! Send mo yung pic!—10:08PM
Esther Marie sent a photo.
It's a wristwatch with a bohemian styled strap. May mga beads pa at the end of the braided thin straps. It looks cute and very hipster.
