"There is such a huge crowd, people all around us focusing on themselves, no one is going to notice. I'm not asking for anything silly, just dance with me properly." Celine asks, trying to keep her smile. Rene immediately goes cold. He shoots Celine a sharp glare. "You know we can't, Celine." She blinks in surprise. She can't remember the last time he used such a harsh voice with her. She nods to avoid anything else and forces her lips shut. She feels like a kicked dog and doesn't need to ask if there will be another dance. She goes her own way after the song is over, trying to find somewhere she can go to lick her wounds. It's like he doesn't want her there at all, like she's a pest. This night started with himimplying they'd be together all night. Sure, it would be friendly, not romantic, but they'd actually talk and be close. Instead, he's frustrated just from her asking him to dance with her the same way he danced with his exes. Is that really so terrible? Won't all this forced distance just make things more obvious? Celine watches him move through the crowd, completely fine while she feels like she's breaking. She's confused, upset, doesn't understand what's going on. This wasn't what she was hoping for. He looks happier without her in his sights and he's never acted like this. She can't figure out why the sudden change! He even touched her at dinner, so why is he so frustrated that she wants to exist near him? It doesn't make any sense at all! Jean-Pierre approaches Celine. "No one should look so sad at a party, Celine." "Oh, I'm fine, just thinking." She makes sure she smiles.
