When I got home, I was completely upset and so exhausted that I collapsed on the sofa in my mother's arms. She had brewed me cocoa just like in the old days and handed it to me with a motherly smile.

My brothers had fetched my dogs and none of them had left my side since then.

Benedict and Jack had almost certainly fallen asleep by now, but I couldn't worry about that because I was almost sinking into the used tissues.

"Everything's going to be okay. There are so many good guys out there." My mother murmured against my hairline before placing a kiss on it. Her warm hand ran up and down my upper arm, silently reassuring me that the pain would pass.

But would it?

Would everything be okay again?

My heart felt as if it had been pierced with hundreds of tiny daggers and now it was lying lifeless and bleeding to death on the bitterly cold floor.

While my soul fell deeper and deeper until there was almost nothing left of me.

"It hurts so much," I sobbed, because deep down I had hoped he wouldn't let me fall. He had said it before he left.

And yet that was exactly what he had done.

"I know, baby. It will pass." She murmured sadly, but didn't let me realize how much it really bothered her to see me so devastated.

She would have a serious word with Max and Toto, probably wouldn't let me go with them, even though it was her idea to do more with my father.

"But I don't want it to pass. I don't want to forget." I sniffled, loosening my grip on my mother's sweater.

The pain made me feel alive in an unbearable way, but it made me feel something and that was strangely enough for me.

But the pain gave me back some of the normality I had been missing for weeks.

For the first time in a long time, I felt normal, vulnerable, almost real. The problems of the last few months suddenly seemed so surreal.

"Twenty drivers are at your feet and you pick the most problematic one." Mom sighed, stroking my back reassuringly and placing gentle kisses on my head, just like Max had always done.

Even though he had crushed my heart, these little gestures made me feel so incredibly alive.

"Let's get drunk." Susie suggested as she gently grabbed my shoulders and looked at me with a motherly gaze.

I looked at her critically, as George and Mick would have to come here in a few hours and they would find us all run down.

But then I suddenly didn't care. I needed a distraction and it had been ages since my mother and I last got drunk.

"I'll get the alcohol." I grinned through the tears, trying to hide my sadness behind my cheerful mask, banishing it to the back of my mind.

A little too euphoric, I got up and made my way to the huge kitchen, where our alcohol supply was carefully stacked in the cupboard provided.

I only reached for high-proof alcohol, which Susie and I could really get drunk on, drowning our sorrows in high-quality alcohol for a few moments.

I returned with the bottles in my hands, dispensing with the glasses, which we wouldn't need anyway.

My mother turned on the TV and turned the music up so loud that I was sure the two little ones would be standing in front of us in a few minutes —

But Susie didn't care, because her daughter needed her right now.

Susie was only my stepmother, but she was more of a mother to me than my biological mother could ever be.

We clinked glasses and took such a big gulp at the same time that the rest of the bitter liquid ran out of our mouths.

Laughing, we stood and danced to the music that was blaring so loudly from the huge speakers that the neighbors soon had to stand on our doorstep.

I kept taking huge gulps of the liquid, which I was sure would make me vomit at some point —

But right now I was enjoying the moment, enjoying the time with my mother and the fun I was having.

Nothing could spoil my mood any more.

After ten minutes, Susie and I were already so drunk that we were dancing against each other and hyping each other up.

If Toto came in, he would probably question our common sense.

But we were alone and enjoying our togetherness to the full.

Giggling, we intertwined our arms and drank the other person's alcohol, savoring the bitter liquid on our tongues and moving our hips to the music, which was now a little quieter.

"This is amazing!" Susie exclaimed over the loud music and let herself fall backwards onto the sofa, giggling, while I bounced up and down to the music.

But suddenly I was grabbed by the hips and thrown so hard onto the sofa that I didn't notice the rock-hard body on top of me for the time being.

"I think that's enough now," Mumbled a familiar voice as someone took the alcohol from my hand. Offended, I looked at the person and saw no other face than Lewis Hamilton's.

Bloody hell.

When had he arrived?

"Hey!" I exclaimed in a huff, trying to fight off the Brit but he was just too heavy on top of me and his arm was far too long for me to reach the bottle.

My best friend looked down at me with a grin before looking behind him to see my dad trying to take the bottle away from Susie.

"Run, Susie!" I giggled, which the blonde woman did as soon as she was able to get away from Toto. She pushed the Brit off me and pulled me up so quickly that I almost fell over again.

Giggling, we ran into the garden with the bottle and jumped into the ice-cold pool, which immediately soaked our clothes and made our bodies freeze.

"Ha! You'll never get us!" We shouted to the two men, who looked down at us with an amused expression on their faces.

But our giggles stopped as soon as Lewis jumped into the pool and tried to grab us.

Susie and I joined forces and pushed Lewis under the water while we tried to save the bottle of alcohol. Laughing, Toto watched as we tortured his pilot and tried to remove the bottle from the dry one in our hands.

"Don't even think about it, Toto!" I exclaimed, letting go of Lewis and swimming with my mother to the other side of the huge pool before Lewis could resurface.

"Come on, guys!" Lewis exclaimed with a laugh as he wiped the chlorinated water off his face and held his hand out to us again.

Susie and I gave each other a look before I splashed water in his face and Susie escaped from the pool with the alcohol and ran through the huge garden so that Toto couldn't catch her.

But then Lewis grabbed me again and Susie's shrieks told me that my dad had caught her too.

Giggling, I fell against Lewis' chest, who lifted me out of the water as if I weighed nothing.
