A Cassarian Story
Varian always knew that he cared for Cassandra. But he didn't realize how much until she was gone.
Six long years after Cassandra leaves Corona, she finally returns. Varian is overjoyed, but she comes bearing terrible news. A stran...
"You saved Grandpa!" Opal shouts excitedly, leaping up from her covers for the millionth time during this story. "But did he really not like you, Mommy?"
"He struggled at first," Cassandra says. "But he eventually came around, just like I knew he would. Especially when a special little girl came into our lives." She boops Opal's nose, resulting in a joyous giggle from the young girl.
"And with that, our journey came to an end," Varian says.
"Awww," Opal says disappointedly. "It can't be over yet! What happened when you got back to Corona?"
"We had a lot to discuss with Aunt Raps and Uncle Eugene," Cassandra replies. "And as it turns out, they had a couple things to discuss with us."
"But first," Varian says, "we decided to spend some time in the Dark Kingdom..."
Varian has to admit, that wasn't quite the reunion he envisioned having with his dad. But he is glad that Quirin is willing to reconsider his feelings against Cassandra. He is certain that, one day, his father will see all the amazing things Varian sees in her and love her too. As Quirin heads off to check on some of his associates, Varian gives him a small wave.
"Well that was... unexpected," Cassandra says, sitting down on a stone bench nearby in the newly restored part of the kingdom. She looks utterly exhausted.
Varian sits down next to her, his knee brushing against hers. "Again, I'm sorry I told him so soon. But I figured it would be best to get it out of the way, you know?"

Cassandra nods, but Varian can tell that she is still slightly upset about her interaction with Quirin. Varian has already had so many conversations with her about not worrying what others think of her past, but he knows that her progress in this area may yet be a difficult journey for her.
"Hey," he says softly. He cups his hand under her chin, then turns her face to meet his and waits until she looks him in the eyes. "Don't pay attention to anything my dad said. He is genuinely gonna try to put the past behind him. I can tell."
