As soon as she walked through the door of the apartment, Camryn was bombarded with questions from Nathan.
"Relax, bro. I just went to get this last box and accidently bumped into a guy. I'm fine." Camryn tried to calm her brother, even though it wasn't working swell.
"Who did you bump into?" Nathan demanded.
"Just some boy, not a big deal," Camryn shrugged.
"Camryn." Nathan warned, and Camryn rolled her eyes.
"Stephen Rivera. There, happy? Besides, why does it matter?" Camryn exasperatedly said.
"It matters because I'm your brother and you're also new here and don't know how these people are." Nathan stated.
"Okay then. What's Stephen like?" Camryn questioned her older brother.
"He's a nice lad, smart. But that's besides the point. The point is that I don't want you talking to anyone else in this building. Understand?" Nathan rambled and Camryn rolled her eyes, nodding, "Good. You may go back to unpacking."
Walking into her new room, Camryn puts down her box and whips out her phone, looking through her contacts before finding Stephen's name and clicking it. Typing out her message, she hits send.
Camryn: Hey. It's Camryn.
Stephen: Oh, hey. So I was thinking about going out for brunch tomorrow around 11:00, and then going for a stroll. Sound good?
Camryn: Sounds lovely.
This exchange went on for a few minutes until Camryn decided that she should go to bed. After changing, she hops into bed and falls into a needed slumber.
The next morning, Camryn wakes up and decides to start getting ready, considering it was already ten o'clock. Hopping in the shower, she washes her body and hair, then picks up her razor to shave. The temptation to cut was strong, but Camryn resisted, no matter how much she wanted to press the cool metal to the flesh of her arm.
Once Camryn was out of the shower and dressed with her teeth brushed, it was ten fifty-five. She walked into the main room of the apartment and actually took the time to look around. It was all modern looking, black and white furniture and decorations ("Typical Nath." Camryn thought), a huge foyer with a grand piano in the left corner.
Camryn was knocked out of her thoughts by the sound of knocking. Walking the few steps to the door, Camryn opened it to reveal Stephen, "Hey," he had said.
"Hey."
"So, you ready?" Stephen questioned.
Camryn nodded, "Yeah, hang on a sec. Nath! I'm leaving!" she shouted and walked out the door to avoid his inquisition.
Once at the car lot, Stephen shows the way to car, a Lamborghini. Walking over to the passenger side, he opened the door and gestured for Camryn to get in. Nodding her head in 'thanks', Camryn hopped into the car. After Stephen got in and started the car, they were on their way.
The ride was filled with silence, the noise that could be heard was the hum of the engine and their heavy breathing. Camryn shifted uncomfortably in her seat, hoping the car ride wouldn't take much longer. Her hoping and praying were finally answered, as a few minutes later, they pulled up in front of Nandos.
Getting out of the car and making their way into the little restaurant, they were seated quickly and ordered. There was no chat throughout their lunch or their car ride to the park. It wasn't until they started to walk that they started talking, getting to know one another.
They asked each other silly questions and told embarrassing stories, but it wasn't until Stephen asked the one question she didn't feel like answering. It wasn't a matter of a what, but a who, and that who happened to be Chloe.
"So, how do you like Nathan's girlfriend?" he asked.
"You want the truth or the lie?" Camryn asked, earning a small chuckle out of Stephen.
"The truth," he said causing Camryn to sigh.
"Honestly, she's a complete and utter bitch. She doesn't like me, I don't like her. She threatens me so I try to stay out of her way. Of course, Nath doesn't know about the threatening."
"Why don't you tell him?" Stephen questioned.
"He's happy. His happiness is more important to me than mine." Camryn replied while Stephen nodded, checking the time on his phone.
"I guess we should head back," he said.
Once back at the complex of flats, Stephen walked Camryn to the door.
"I had fun today," he mumbled.
"Me too. I guess I'll see you later," Camryn replied.
Stephen bent down and kissed her cheek before walking away. Camryn watched him for a moment before opening the door, ready to face the music that would come for her that would be presented by her brother.
