chapter 12 "Nightmares have meaning."

Dev sat on the grass next to the water at his and Kier's spot, swaying his legs back and forth in the water.. his tail sitting on his lap. He liked to pretend his heavy tail was like an animal resting on him. Calm and soothing. He heard footsteps behind him and averted his gaze over to his wyvern ridgeback friend, Boosfer. "Hi Boosfer" Dev said softly, smiling up at Boosfer. Boosfer sat down next to Dev, leaning on the taller guy as if he were a pillow. "Hi Dev" Boosfer calmly said, running his hand along Dev's scaly tail, enjoying the texture. Boosfer spoke again, "where's Kier?" Dev looked down at Boosfer, thinking of where Kier would be. Usually the two were always together every night and day. They were an inseparable duo. Dev sighed and smiled again, knowing where Kier was. "Oh, he's probably up at his house doing something" something seemed off after he said that.. everything was getting brighter, and started to glow like the fruits Kier and Dev had previously shared together. "Dev." Dev looked over at Boosfer. "Yeah?" He asked, tilting his head to the right. "It's not your fault." Boosfer said, his voice deepening and turning more monotone.. "what..?" Dev asked, raising an eyebrow slightly. "It's not your fault." Boosfer's body began to morph and change. He grew taller, his top pair of horns curled slightly while the other two pairs were absorbed by Boosfer's body. His wings detached from his arms and grew. The stinger on the tip of his ridged tail began to catch fire. His ridges altered into spikes. "What are you talking about..?" Dev asked, confused why Boosfer's body was changing.. why his voice was altering.. why his accent was also disappearing. Dev felt his breathing increase. He felt like walls were closing in on him, the sky was changing to shady and stormy quicker than a fire dragon could jump from a giant mushroom and take flight. "It's not your fault." Boosfer repeated, his body and voice still changing slowly but surely. Everything was so... confusing. A recognizable necklace faded onto ... Boosfer? Nonono! That wasn't Boosfer. That was Kier. He wasn't JUST Kier either. He looked different. Too different. His skin was pale and Dev couldn't feel the body heat radiating off of him. His lips were a purple-ish blue-ish color.. and his tail.. it wasn't on fire? But it was on fire a second ago- wait. No.."Kier!?" Dev gasped horrifyingly. He couldn't tell what was going on at all. He looked over at the ocean. The water began to boil, making it unsafe. He looked up at the sky, noticing something was wrong.. it was like heaven was falling. Kier's words switched between "it's not your fault" and "ITS ALL YOUR FAULT." Dev began to have tears streaming from his shiny black eyes. He couldn't tell what was going on anymore. He tried to run but was stopped by a large growling wolf. Dev hated this. He hated every single bit of it. WHY WONT IT JUST END ALREADY? "KIER PLEASE IM SORRY!" Dev dropped to his knees, hugging Kier tightly. "I TRIED, PLEASE! KIER PLEASE IM SORRY I DIDNT MEAN TO LET YOU GO I- I WANTED TO PROTECT YOU!" The last thing Dev knew.. everything had gone white. Where was he.. everything else was gone. All of the sounds.. all of the voices.. and Kier. "What..?" Dev looked around, taking in the fact that it was just him.. his voice echoed through the emptiness. "Kier? Boosfer? Where is everyone..?" The air was light.. it's like he was floating through space.. Dev looked around, not able to find any source of life other than himself.. "Missster Dev!" A voice called out from the void as Dev began to gain consciousness.

"Huh..? Wh-..? Where am I?" Dev asked, sitting up. He realized where he was. He was in a 'hospitalizing' cave. A cave used for all sorts of underwater creatures. He realized he was laying flat on his stomach on a rock that was barely underwater.

"Misster Dev you're awake! I brought you ssome fishh!!" Azule sat an octopus up on the rock for Dev to eat. It was already dead and had no life left in its poor body.

Dev grabbed the octopus and swallowed it with ease. "What happened..?" He asked, rubbing the back of his head with his webbed right hand.

"I injected ssleeping venom into your blood sstream and you fell assleep. Then mama and papa took you here." Azule said with a ..  smile? On their face.

"Oh.. well I have to go.. sorry, kiddo." Dev slid off of the rock, dipping into water. He started to swim away, thinking about his dream. How did he have legs? Why was Kier there? Why was it like how it was..? Dev let out a yawn, allowing more water to flood down his throat. His body was made for stuff like that so it didn't even matter.

Dev swam out of the cave, and began to speed away. He started to remember what happened. He didn't know how long he had been asleep but he didn't give two fucks. He wanted to find Kier. He needed to find Kier. And he needed to find Kier fast. But what if Kier was already dead like in the dream? What if Kier was gone forever? What if Dev never gets to say goodbye to Kier one last time..? What if-.. NO. He has to keep searching. Dev knew Kier was strong. He knew Kier could make it out alive.. right? Kier IS alive.. right? If Kier WAS dead it would be all Dev's fault. He would have the life of carrying the guilt of killing his best friend. Just like the weird Kier from Dev's dream... it would be all his fault. And Dev would never be forgiven by Boosfer.. by YelloWool.. by Kier's family.. or by anyone. He would be a murderer.

Dev brushed away his thoughts and focused on finding Kier.. and then he saw it. A shadow above the water... it was.. A BOAT! Maybe the boat rescued Kier and Kier was okay after all!
