CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

My feet take careful steps towards the large government facility. A large, grey building about thirty miles from Stephen Strange's sanctuary. Tony says that this is where the new mutants are being kept. In iron cages and metal prisons. Yeah, okay, we'll go with "kept". More like imprisoned. Even the good ones, or ones who have control of their powers are here. Sometimes I really hate the government.

Last night had been the night we decided what to do about Black Death and everything he's done. Many opinions were voiced again, many thoughts were given, but with the information Stephen gave us, we came to one unanimous conclusion: Black Death must be stopped at all costs, no matter the costs.

My mind flashes back to that hour when we had talked.

"I think I know the source of his power," Stephen had said, entering the room with the gradure he left with.

All the Avengers were on edge. I had been clinging to Pietro like my life depended on it, holding his hand with such might of the mighty Thor. He kept whispering soothing things to me to calm me, but nothing would do much now. The closer we got to Gregory, the less still I can be.

"Tell us," Tony said, and he sat up straighter at the table.

"It's another infinity stone," Stephen said, and he showed us a picture from on of his books. "I believe it to me the Soul Gem."

"The Soul Gem can take control of or even steal a person's soul," I said, recalling my comicbook memory from my world.

Stephen looked at me with surprise. "Yes, that's absolutely true. How did you-?"

"-Other worlder, remember?" Tony said. "That's great. Fantastic. But how did he start turning dormant mutants into living ones?"

"I believe that the Soul Gem can do that," Stephen said. "More than just souls, it is my belief that this infinity stone can change a person's power. Possibly it can give the dormant mutant gene enough energy to surface, when normally it wouldn't."

"So an infinity stone is behind this?" Thor asked.

Stephen nodded. "This means that we must stop him at all costs. You remember what the Mind Gem did, the Power Gem, the Reality Gem, and the Space Gem. Do not underestimate their power."
