When I got to the elevator, I was sweating bullets.

He asked me why I wanted the job. I told him why I wanted the job.

I was honest. But, sometimes honesty isn't always the best policy.

My phone rings. I take it out of my pocket and look at the caller ID.

Santiago Alvaro's office.

I answer it. "Mr. Alvaro."

"Ms. Mahelona."

I wait for him to speak. When he doesn't, I do. "Was there something you needed?"

"Yes. Can you start tomorrow?"

"What time?"

"9 a.m. I'll see you tomorrow. Don't be late," he says and then the phone hangs up.

I squeal and do a little happy dance in the elevator.

What I didn't realize is that the elevator stopped on the eighteenth floor and a girl was standing there, looking at me.

I go silent as she steps onto the elevator and presses the fourth floor. She glances at me and smiles. "Please, don't stop on my account."

My face breaks out into an embarrassed, red flush. "S-Sorry...I'm just excited. I just got a job here."

Her smile grows. "Congratulations. Looks like we'll be working together. I'm Camille. What's your name?"

She extends her hand to me and I shake it. "Leilani."

"Hm. Exotic name. That's hot," she compliments.

I laugh. "Well, I don't know how exotic considering I am from Hawaii, which is in the United States."

She laughs. "Believe me, I know."

"Oh, I'm glad," I say. "But you won't believe the amount of people who didn't."

She rolls her eyes and smiles. "The American school system fails us all."

"So, what do you do here?" I ask her.

"I'm Aidan Jun-Li's assistant. He's one of the owners," she says. "What about you?"

"Santiago's new assistant."

Camille's eyebrows shoot up. "A new assistant already? I could've sworn he hired Vivian just a few weeks ago. Makes sense for him anyway."

My eyebrows quirk. "What do you mean?"

Camille looks at me, hesitantly. Then she quiets her voice. "Okay, don't tell anybody I told you this."

I nod. Excitement and worry fill my body. I haven't even started and I'm already getting the 411 on my boss.
