JUNE 27, 2019 — THE PLAZA — RÉA
Happy pulls the limo up in front of the hotel, then gets out and opens the trunk; Bucky joins him outside. A few moments later, my door opens, and Bucky leans into the car.
"I'm sorry that I can't do anything about the crowds, but we won't have to be around them for long," he says.
"It's alright. I'll be okay as long as I'm with you. It's just a few minutes, right?"
"Yeah. Are you ready?"
I nod. "Yeah."
He stands up and holds his vibranium hand out to me; I take it, and he helps me out of the car. I see a hard-side, rolling suitcase with a leather duffel bag on top, and give him a quizzical look.
"Nat packed your bag when I told her the plan."
'I'm sure it's full of lingerie...hopefully she packed a pair of pyjamas and some actual clothes,' I think as Bucky and I head into the hotel.
"Good evening; welcome to The Plaza. Checking in?" the man at the front desk asks as we approach.
"Good evening; yes, the reservation is under Barnes."
"Excellent. I just need to see some I.D., sir, and we can get you into your room."
Bucky takes out his wallet and removes his driver's license, handing it over. The man checks it and returns it.
"Thank you." He types on his keyboard. "I see that you'll be staying in the Grand Penthouse Suite; do you need one key or two?"
"Just one, please," Bucky says.
The man creates the key and hands it to Bucky.
"You will need to use this in the elevator to gain access to your floor; you're on the twentieth. I'll have someone bring your bags—"
"No, thank you," Bucky says.
"Very well. Is there anything else I can assist you with this evening?"
"No, thank you. Have a good evening," Bucky replies.
"Thank you, sir; you two as well."
With that, Bucky and I make our way to the lift.
When we arrive at our room, Bucky enters first, with me right behind him. He checks the two closets by the door while I stand in the foyer, my back against the door.
"Wait right here, doll, while I check the rest of the room. I'll be right back."
I nod. "Okay."
Bucky disappears around the corner; I hear him moving through the suite, opening doors. I hear his footsteps on what sounds like stairs, and wonder just how big this suite is. Eventually, I hear doors closing and his footsteps growing louder. He returns to the foyer, coming to stand in front of me. He throws the deadbolt and the safety latch, then holds his hand out to me.
"Before you see this room and say I spent way too much, I just want to say that I didn't do this. I'd booked us a regular room, but apparently Tony called and upgraded us to this. At least according to the text he just sent me."
I can't help but giggle at the slightly grumpy look on his face.
"You know Tony...he can't help meddling."
At my laughter, Bucky's expression softens, and he grins.
"True. Although I suppose I shouldn't be too upset. He is a billionaire, and if he wants to spend the money, then I should let him. Right?"
