Chapter 17

"And you remembered all your responses to the potential questions?" Zoe asked, touching up Troye's makeup.

"30 seconds, Mr.Sivan" one of the stage crew workers interrupted, basically pushing Troye to the side of the stage where he would enter.

"go get them, Tiger" Zoe smiled, giving Troye a quick hug, then a slight push to make him move faster towards the edge of the stage. Troye could hear the stage manager start to countdown from 10, and suddenly his nerves began to build up.

"You can do this, Troye" he whispered to himself. "You got this" and as he heard the number 5 being called out, he looked to his left to see Connor giving him a big smile and a thumbs up.

"break a leg" he managed to squeak out right before hearing the words "Now!" Come from the stage managers mouth.

"Hello and welcome back to the Tonight Show! I'm your host, Grace Helbig!" the cheery women on stage announced to the small audience sitting in front of her. "We're very lucky to have this next guest join us here today. Please give a warm welcome to teenage sensation – Troye Sivan!"

The audience, consisting of mainly middle aged people, started to cheer for Troye as he walked on stage and took a seat next to Grace by her famous desk.

"Welome, Troye" Grace welcomed, giving a warm smile to the boy. "Thanks for coming"

"Thanks for having me" Troye smiled back, trying to fight the nerves building inside of him. As he looked out into the audience, he spotted a few teenaged girls – probably his fans – smile as they saw their idol on stage. Seeing his fans always made him feel better.

"So, I've heard your working on new music! How's that coming along?"

"Music has its stresses, that's for sure. But after I came over the bump in the road, the rest of the ride has been running smoothly. I'm really excited to be sharing this with my fans"

"I hear you've enrolled in a High School for the semester. How is it being back in school?" Grace had asked, her arm leaning on her desk as she questioned Troye.

"it's been different, yeah. There's a lot of drama. Like a lot – this can get pretty frustrating." Troye answered, totally ignoring the actual answer he was supposed to give.

"So have you made any friends in school?"

"Well, everybody in the school tried to interact with me at least once, but I did manage to make an amazing friend in the process. I actually met him before school started and he just happened to be in one of my classes. I actually brought him with me tonight" Troye smiled as he talked about Connor , looking backstage every now and then to see Connor smiling.

"That's good! And speaking of friends, I'm sure the topic a lot of people want to hear about is Bethany Mota." Troye chuckled at this, knowing that the time for the lying starts any second now – which, of course, he'd rather not do. "So tell us about Bethany."

Troye stayed silent for a couple of seconds, remembering what the notecard had said. She has a heart of gold. Incredibly caring. Always there.

"Well" Troye started. "She's unique, that's for sure. She's always there for me and yeah she's pretty okay" As Troye looked backstage to see the reaction of Jim, it was nothing short of shock. This was going to be fun.

"How'd you two meet?" Grace questioned, ignoring the odd answer Troye had just given her about Bethany. I heard her signing in the studio.

"My manager, Jim, introduced us at a meeting." Troye answered truthfully. It was amazing how good he felt to finally be speaking the truth to his fans – even if the only fans that are watching this in this exact moment are the 3 young ladies in the audience. It would be televised later for all of America to see.

"Well, it's time for the question of the hour." Troye took a deep breath, he knew exactly what this question was. He could only answer it the way Jim wanted him to. Or did he? "Are you and Bethany Mota dating?" Grace asked, causing Troye to break out in a smile.

Yes. We've been dating for three months.

Troye took a deep breath. This was it. He was making it official for his fans.

"No" He replied, hearing multiple quiet gasp come from back stage. "it's funny you should ask that, actually. I know there's been a lot of speculation – but Bethany and I are just friends."

"Oh" Grace seemed shocked by his answer. Clearly, Troye and Bethany had fooled everybody into thinking they were dating. "I truly thought you two were dating. That's a shocker" Grace chuckled out.

"well that's the thing, Grace." Troye smiled, taking a deep breath. "I'm actually gay"

This time, gasp were heard from – not only backstage – but from the audience and Grace as well. Troye turned his head to look at Connor, whose eyes were wide open and his mouth slightly agape.

"That's amazing! Congratulations, Troye." Grace seemed to be at a loss of words, that's all she could mutter out. "thanks for coming, Troye!" She smiled, standing up. Troye followed her actions and gave her a quick hug before walking off the set.

As he walked, he walked straight for Connor, who was still in shock. "I just came out to all of America." Troye stated, staring off into the distance. "Connor, I just came out." Troye said, this time with a smiled appearing on his face.

"You just. Oh my god" Connor smiled, finally looking up at Troye. "I can't believe you just did that. Holy shit. " Connor chuckled. "I'm so proud of you!"

"th-thanks I think?" Troye stuttered out, looking over to Jim. His face had pure rage on it as he stomped his was over to the two boys. "shit"

"Mellet? What the hell?" Jim practically yelled. "We tell you to do one thing and you do the other? What has gotten into you?"

"jim, please not right now. Can we wait for the episode to air tonight then we can talk about it? I'm sure you'd be surprised." Troye stated, turning around to face Connor again.

Troye knew that coming out to his fans over a talk show probably just gave him even more publicity than saying he was dating Bethany – which was a win for Jim – and he finally got to be open and honest with his fans – which was a win for Troye.

"Hey Troye?" Connor stated, breaking his train of thought.

"Yeah?"

"You just came out" Connor smiled. He was truly and surely proud of Troye.
