You weren't entirely sure what time in your life you had travelled to; you just knew that you were asleep(you hoped) and maybe you could finally rest.
Your eyes were closed, but your mind was telling you everything you needed to know about where you were. You were in your childhood bedroom, but you were feeling scared for some reason. Why were you so scared?
You opened your eyes, but you felt you could already see your world without even opening them. Dreams were so strange, and their logic was almost never what you wanted them to be. Still, you always knew what was going on without one of your dream characters having to explain something.
You looked in the mirror and saw that you were currently your 22-year-old self, with acne scars and a more mature face. You turned around and saw a much younger version of yourself, one who still loved playing in the park. The most exciting part of your life was when your parents would buy you junk food to eat.
You froze, afraid of what younger-you might think of an older you, and if younger-you would just attack you with her sheer toddler strength.
You heard sniffling and saw the blankets on your bed being tightly wound around the younger you. The door clicked open, and you saw a much younger version of your mom walk into the room. The mom had yet to have smile wrinkles and didn't have to dye her hair every week. The young mom had lived an easyish life because she had married a businessman with a well-paid job who made sure she never made her worry about getting three meals on the table every day.
The young mom who had a scowl on her face. Her eyes were completely focused on the younger you. She sat down on your bed and looked down on you,
"(y/n) I know this is difficult, but this is what's best for you. I'm thinking about your future. This school will set you up to have a good life where you will always have a job and where that job will provide for you for the rest of your life."
You heard yourself mumbling under the sheets, and the younger-you peeked out from the sheets.
"Mommy, stop saying words I don't understand."
Younger-you rubbed your eyes and wiped the tears from them with your arm.
"Oh, baby. I love you. I just want to make sure you always have a nice comfy bed and a nice meal to eat when you come home, okay."
"Okay, Mommy."
Your mom took you and held you closely. She felt your body shake as you sniffled and tried to stop yourself from crying.
"I know this is tough to hear, but I want to make sure you can live out your best life, no matter what you actually choose to do."
You frowned and jutted out your lower lip.
"But I choose to be with Tooru."
"(y/n) if you choose to be with Tooru. It'll be much harder for you to get a good life easily."
"I want to be with Tooru, mommy. You can't make me go to school anyway. I just won't go to school."
Your mom sighs loudly, closing her eyes and pinching the space between her eyebrows.
"Okay. Okay. Okay. I'm so tired. If you go to school with Tooru, you have to do some after-school tutoring, and I'll sign you up for other things. If you don't like the other things, I can take you out of them. You have to do after-school after-school tutoring, okay (y/n). This is non-negotiable."
You nodded your head quickly and ran out of your room so quickly that your mother could have sworn that she had gotten rug burn from how quickly the blanket she held had moved.
