Romi hadn't realized how much the boys were involved in her life until she had refused to be around them. Whether it be in class, at meals, or in her free time. She hated to say it but she missed them. And worst of all, she missed James.
They had just started to become whatever they were when she managed to ruin everything. But maybe it was for the best. Maybe the universe was trying to remind her that they were not meant to be together in the way that they wanted. That they were better off as friends. If she could get over herself long enough to even talk to him again.
It had been two months since she had last spoken to them. Two full moons since they had fought in the Shrieking Shack. Two turns of her wolf wanting to join them but her being too stubborn to let it.
Romi had miraculously managed to stay caught up in all of her classes without Remus's guidance. She wasn't sure if she was avoiding him or her brother was actually avoiding her. She had this odd feeling it was the latter.
She wandered the halls, unsure of what to do with herself. The entirety of the school had gone to the Quidditch game. She could hear them cheering from the castle, and she could see the blurs of color from where she stood by the window. Gryffindor was probably winning. James had his team working tooth and nail to ensure that they would be in top shape for the game. It was to determine who would be up for the Quidditch Cup and he had been talking about it all year.
Romi stuffed her hands in the pockets of her hoodie, coming to a decision. She made her way to the field, looking up at the people flying around, hunting after the Snitch and trying to score points. She found a seat higher on the stands, she could see her brother and her friends sitting beneath her and she frowned. Shaking her head, she focused her attention on the game.
She scanned the field, searching for the only reason she would ever come to a game to begin with. The boys used to have to fight her tooth and nail to join them but the second James flashed her his puppy dog eyes, she was done for. She found him, after a bit, and he was darting back and forth across the field. It was majestic, watching the team work in unison with one another. They worked in tandem, flying towards the same goal.
James turned in her direction, as though a part of him could feel her watching him. She tensed and he watched her for only a second before returning his focus on the game. She crossed her arms over her chest, suddenly feeling cold despite the jacket. He had locked in, seemingly spotting the Golden Snitch. The Ravenclaw Seeker saw this, and darted after it as well. James was ahead, his focus purely on the Snitch. The crowd erupted with cheers, one of the Gryffindor Chasers scoring, the Ravenclaw Keeper distracted.
Those around her stood up, and she was forced to do the same, unable to see without. Her hands were pressed together in front of her as she stood on her tiptoes. The two Seeker's were getting dangerously close to the ground when James suddenly shot up, heading straight upwards. He straightened out, turning upside down. A few people gasped, but his hand jutted out, closing around something. He straightened out, a grin on his face. He opened his hand, holding the Snitch between his thumb and forefinger. The gold shimmered in the setting sun and the crowd cheered. He held it up, and his eyes drew towards Romi almost immediately.
Romi ducked, using the crowd to her advantage, she could hear the announcement for Gryffindor's win, confirming that Gryffindor and Slytherin would be going head to head for the cup. She was quick to move down the stairs, dodging people's arms as they jumped around in excitement. Coming to the match had been a mistake, she had no intention of speaking to him. But she also hadn't expected him to notice her.
Rather than going to her common room - which was soon to be swarmed by Gryffindor's who were celebrating - she made her way to the lake. She found the tree she normally stowed away under, and she lowered herself to the ground. She leaned her back against the trunk, staring out over the lake. She pulled her legs up to her chin, pressing her palms into her eyes. She could have been hiding in her room already, but here she was. It was all her fault too.
