home and away

"Olivia!" Tyler walked down the hallway with a pair of khakis in his hands and paused when he stumbled upon their child's bedroom. "Hey, I brought the pants."
"Thank you." Olivia flashed him a small smile before tossing the pants she was previously holding in the waste bin beside her son's desk.
He was currently going through some sort of growth spurt and growing like crazy. Their current obstacle of the morning was trying to find some properly fitting pants which Olivia then decided just to call his father and see if he had any at his place.
"I bought these last week. Hopefully, they fit him," Tyler sighed. "That kid's growing like a weed."
"Well, we can thank your freakishly tall genes for that." She pulled open the dresser to grab the collared shirt and set it on the bed before glancing at Tyler. "Kai's in the bathroom getting ready. Would you like a cup of coffee before you head to work?"
"Sure."
The two padded their way down the hallway and made it into the kitchen where a fresh pot of coffee was brewing. Olivia already had her pink mug on the counter with a fresh lip gloss stain, obvious signs of this not being her first cup.
"So...how's Eddie?" Tyler opened up the cupboard and grabbed a mug. "Or should I ask how are the two of you?"
"Things are okay. Why?"
"Just surprised he and Christopher aren't here. Is everything okay?"
Olivia chewed on her bottom lip and shrugged as she stirred some creamer into the mug of coffee. "We're fine. I'm fine."
"As someone who's dated you, I call bullshit. I know you, Liv."
"Okay, nosey, the truth is...things are sort of weird." She set down the mug in her hand and waltzed over to unload the dishwasher with a low sigh. "He withheld something very important from me and now I might've dumped him during the week of the cyberattacks."
"Might have?"
"I don't know! It's just...things are so hard with him sometimes. I know relationships require work but sometimes I feel like I'm having to pull teeth just to get information out of him."
"You're not the easiest person to be in a relationship with either," Tyler quipped with a soft laugh. "When things get hard you have a tendency to run and hide. The beginning of our relationship, you hid. When I tried to talk to you about your Mom, you hid. Then you got pregnant and⎼"
"Okay, I get it."
"Moral of the story...don't give up so quickly. You obviously love Eddie and if whatever happened is something you can get over, you should try."
