I twisted off the edge and began flying to the tree where we would hold the ceremony. As I flew, Lo'ak was next to me watching me. I looked over to Lo'ak with tears in my eyes, "I shouldn't give up on him," I yelled over to him.
"We're not giving up on him Y/n, we are coming to terms with him being gone, it's been weeks, and it's not fair to anyone to keep holding off the inevitable," Lo'ak said to me.
I looked down to Iris and tried to take in what he said. Maybe it's just grief but I can't fully believe Neteyam is gone. I wanted to give up flying to his funeral. My purpose is gone and my love is gone. I can't help but to ask why this is happening to us.
We landed at the tree where we would normally lay someone to rest but there was no body to lay so instead we would sing Neteyam's song cord and have a ceremony.
I jumped off Iris and disconnected from her. As I walked in front of her she put her head on my shoulder trying to comfort me. I put my hand on her face thanking her before walking away.
I hugged the pull over thing Neytiri gave to me and walked forward towards the people at the ceremony. The Sully's walked behind me mourning their son. Lo'ak put his hand on my shoulder as we walked to the tree.
As we made our way in front of the people, they turned their heads in sarrow looking at us as they made a clearing to walk through.
I continued to try and hide my tears and not fall apart but there was only so much I could do. My shoulders shook as I cried silently making it to the front.
I stepped in front of the tree as the Sully's stayed in the crowd in the front watching me.
"We have searched endlessly for Neteyam," I said speaking to the people, "With no sign of him, we have decided he is gone," I said my lips quivering as tears fell down my face. "Though there is no body, we know he will be resting with Eywa, where ever he may lay," I said looking to Jake.
Jake nodded at me telling me to continue.
"I am sorry I could not protect him like I swore I would, I want nothing more to trade places with Neteyam," I said looking at Jake apologizing, "he was a mighty warrior," I said looking a Lo'ak slightly smiling, "But most importantly, he had a wonderful and kind soul, a smile that would light up any part of the forest," I said looking at Neytiri who was crying.
"Neteyam rests with Eywa now, all energy is only barrowed and one day is returned to Eywa," Tsahik said from behind me handing me a sappling from the spirit tree.
I took the sappling from her and held the sapling in my hands facing back to the crowd of Navi. I looked at the sappling and started to sing Neteyam's song cord.
As I sung, Neytiri came up and began singing with me seeing my struggle and held the sappling with me as well. We sung with our voices harmonizing beautifully.
once we finished the song cord, Neytiri and I released the sappling together gently. I hugged neytiri crying into her shoulder. "I don't know how to do this without him," I whispered to her.
"Shhh child, you know he wouldn't want you to cry," she held onto me tightly.
After we all prayed to Eywa we began making our way back to the hut.
I looked at Lo'ak who looked defeated. "Lo'ak," I whisper yelled to him grabbing his attention, "One last look," I asked him.
He seemed completely on board and nodded to me. We broke away from the rest of the family to the island that we lost Neteyam on.
Once we got there we hopped off our Ikrans and began looking around one last time.
"Neteyam please, if you hear me come forward please," I yelled out into the trees. "Please," I begged out searching through the forest with Lo'ak.
"Bro, we are leaving tomorrow, please come out," Lo'ak said crying out.
We both knew this would be the last time we searched for him.
"Neteyam!" I yelled out, "This is our last time being here please," i paused realizing where in the forest we were.
I looked up seeing the log he had falled off of and where he landed which was right in front of me.
I sat on my knees touching the spot and putting my forehead to the ground. I screamed out which caused Lo'ak to run over to me. I just scream cried into the ground holding onto it. Lo'ak held onto my shoulders and cried with me.
"How did he disapear?" I asked Lo'ak looking up, "He obviously didn't die because he moved,"
"I don't know y/n, but I know if he were here he would be trying to find you," Lo'ak said making me think about something.
"That's it," I said with a realization, "What if he couldn't find us because they took him," I said looking to Lo'ak.
He looked at me confused yet still dissapointed.
"What?" I said, "It makes sense does it not?"
"It does but think about it, they dont really care about us other than to get you or my dad out," Lo'ak said, "No offer has been made or any threat, we've seen this before," Lo'ak continued, "It's not very likely they took him,"
"I think it is, maybe they're holding onto him waiting for us, I will trade myself back in if it means he will live, I will die if it means he gets to live, I don't think you understand the risk I am going to take for him," I said bluntly.
"I do y/n because we've seen it, and so have the sky people, they would of made an offer by now because they know you would turn yourself over to them, please understand he is not coming back," Lo'ak said.
"But-" Lo'ak cut me off.
"There is no but, you are trying to bargin and you're in denial y/n, it is not changing," Lo'ak said which just made me fall back into the ground in the spot where Neteyam last was.
I laid in the spot and just held onto it, "I am sleeping here tonight, you may go," I said dismissing Lo'ak.
"I didn't mean to hurt your feelings y/n, i just know you can't keep yourself in denial," Lo'ak said trying to comfort me. "You can't just sleep here, we know there is still sky people traveling the woods,"
"I don't care, let them take me, I do not care anymore," I said turning away from Lo'ak.
"Y/n, you dont mean it, come on, let's go home," he said.
"My home is dead, like you said, now go," I said again angry.
Lo'ak tried to grab my arm to stand.
"GO AWAY," i yelled out crying, "I want to sleep here, I will see you in the morning to leave," I said quielty, "Let me just be here,"
"I'm sorry y/n, I'll go, good night," he said lightly placing his hand on my arm before leaving.
After Lo'ak left I stayed in the spot yelling out one last time, "if you love me please come home," I said.
