Panic rose in her chest when Maggie started to scream for Hershel. She jumped out of the bed, feeling her throat tighten and her vision blur, her legs went numb as she tried to run. This was it, she had thought, they had finally reached them, coming to take the only sense of security they had.

She gained focus, running down the stairs. She followed everyone out of the house and onto the porch, surprised and relieved to see a single man, with a boy in his arms.

Jimmy clutched his baseball bat, prepared to protect them if necessary but as the man got closer, she could make out the sheriffs uniform he was wearing. Desperation clung to his eyes as he panted from running across the field. The little boy was unmoving, making her take a step back.

"Was he bit?"Hershel asked.

"Shot, by your man," the officer said rushing toward them.

"Otis?" Patricia asked as everyone but Emory made their way down the porch steps.

"He said find Hershel. Is that you?" He asked making Hershel nod.

"Help me. Help my boy," the man cried, as Hershel guided him into the home, rolling up his sleeves.

"Patricia, I need my full kit. Maggie, painkillers, coagulates, grab everything. Emory, clean towels, sheets, alcohol," Hershel started ordering, Emory froze, terrified the little boy would become on the dead.

Beth grabbed her hand, snapping her out of her trance and suddenly Emory was moving and grabbing everything Hershel needed. The little boy still had a chance at life, at least in Hershel's hands, she needed to put her fears aside to help.

"Is he alive?" The boys father asked as everyone started bringing in the necessary supplies.

"Pillowcase, quick. Fold it, make a pad. Put pressure on the wound" Hershel instructed as he took a stethoscope to the boys chest. His father's hands covered in his blood as he pales.

"I've got a heartbeat, it's faint," Hershel said making the father feel slightly relived as Patrica took over applying pressure to the wound.

"Maggie, I.V.," Hershel called.

"We need some space," Maggie told the boys father.

"Your name?" Hershel asked him.

"Rick"

"Rick?"
