"How do you feel about making a deal with the devil?"

FOR A FLEETING MOMENT, IVY HAD ALLOWED HERSELF TO BELIEVE THAT Carlisle Cullen was her guardian angel, a beacon of hope in the bleakness of her existence within the asylum walls. His gentle demeanor and reassuring words had sparked a glimmer of optimism within her heart, a hope that she had long thought extinguished.

As she sat in the sterile confines of her room, Ivy replayed their conversation in her mind, clinging to the promise of salvation that Carlisle had offered. For the first time in her life, she had allowed herself to believe that someone actually cared—that someone was willing to help her escape the prison of her own mind.

But as the days turned into weeks and Carlisle failed to make another appearance, Ivy's optimism slowly began to wane. The nurses' evasive answers only served to fuel her growing sense of dread, until finally, the truth was revealed.

Doctor Cullen and his family had moved away, leaving Ivy to confront the harsh reality of her solitude once more. The bittersweet lies he had spun were like a dagger to her heart, shattering the fragile illusion of hope that she had clung to so desperately.

In that moment, Ivy felt a profound sense of betrayal wash over her—a betrayal that cut deeper than any physical wound. For Carlisle Cullen had offered her a lifeline, only to snatch it away when she needed it most.

A couple of weeks after Carlisle promised to help her they started electroconvulsive therapy and Ivy hated it. She felt nauseous after it and the headache was terrible. But the worst side effect was the confusion and memory loss it caused. And nothing changed because it couldn't cure her curse. Her touch was still lethal to people.

Ivy had been right, no angels would come for her and no guardian angel was watching over her.

As Ivy lay in her room, the oppressive silence around her enveloped her like a suffocating blanket. She was suddenly jolted up but the piercing sound of screams echoing through the sterile hall. Though such cries were not uncommon in the asylum, there was something about the urgency and desperation in these screams that sent a chill down Ivy's spine, raising the hairs on the back of her neck.

Her heart pounding in her chest, Ivy watched in mounting fear as the door to her room creaked open, admitting a figure cloaked in darkness. Her breath caught in her throat as she took in his appearance, the dark attire, the crimson hue in his eyes, the telltale traces of blood staining his lips.

His jet-black hair was tied behind his head. His eyes were a milky red color that unsettled Ivy slightly. His skin was almost translucent, she almost wanted to reach out to it to see if it is smooth and cold like she imagined it to be.
