~Hope POV~
Me: You hungry?
Ren: Is that you asking me to lunch lol
Me: Only if you say yes
Ren: Yes :)I met up with Ren at an All American restaurant. It had been two weeks since she'd given me her number so I decided to text her. I had just gotten us a table when she walked in, all dressed up, stunning I might add. I didn't think to wear anything other than casual clothing. "Oops. I guess I'm a little overdressed," she said shyly, pulling at the sequin mini skirt. "Oh what, no. Y-you look great" I fumbled my words. She looked beautiful, I was just confused on why she was dressed so nice. This wasn't pasta and lobster. Also, this wasn't a date, right?
We shared a few laughs throughout lunch. It was amazing. Ren reminisced on the fight I had with her locker. I noticed how every time she said something her hands moved along. When she pulled her hair to the side as a sign of relief. When she moves her eyes left to right because she feels nervous. I seen a bright smile plastered across her face. I loved that she was having a good time. I loved that I was having a good time.
"your phone is ringing" she cleared her throat, pulling me out of a trance. "oh uh it's Tess, do you mind if I...", trailing off. "of course not" she said surely.
Lunch was great. We spent the remainder of the time getting to know one another before leaving. "So..is she okay, Tess?" Ren asked curiously. "Yeah she was... uh just wondering what I was doing," I didn't have a great poker face, I can't lie to save my life. Tess did call to see what I was doing but I couldn't say that she hung up when I mentioned that I was with Ren. Somehow though, Ren put it together. "She doesn't like me very much, does she?", Ren gathered an unsettling look on her face. "She just needs to get to know you more, that's all" I reassured Ren. She gave me a bright smile.
I wasn't ready to go home yet. I knew there was a park not too far away from where we had eaten. I go here a lot to think when my feelings for Tess get riled up badly. It was walking distance. I offered Ren, "there's a park nearby if you feel like being a kid for a little bit" I joked. "Always, but if there's only one swing, I get it" she laughed, I joined. Luckily there were two swings open!
I seen a look on Ren I hadn't yet deciphered. I'd come to the conclusion that she was about to ask me a serious question.
"So Hope, why are you single", she raised an eyebrow. I was flustered by the question.
"It's actually quite simple. I like girls, but girls just don't seem to like me", we shared a laugh.
"You're funny. So, what about you and Tess?" Ren questioned me. Why is she asking about Tess?My phone rang. It's Tess again. "I'm so sorry," I pleaded. "No please, we should head back anyway".
I walk up to my front door only to see my best friend staring at me, arms crossed, pouting. "You've been gone all day," Tess stated the obvious. "I'm aware," I looked at her with brazon eyes. "And you were with that girl. You could have been with me,".
I don't know if she said what she meant or if she meant what she said, but I caught it. I took a step towards her leaving little space in between us. I looked into both of her pretty green eyes, and spoke a soft "Could I have? Really?". She didn't move, not a bit. She reeks of jealousy.
——Ren: Making sure you got home. Thanks for today :)
Me: I did! See you later?
Ren: Only if I wanna be seen ;) goodnight
Me: Goodnight Ren.
