Week-12
I looked up all the paperwork in my desk as the clock hit 8. I was meeting Aadil for dinner. It was a casual date because Aadil wasn't the one for anything serious and as I had made the commitment I would go fulfill it.
It had been a whole week since Kabir's birthday and the uneasy feeling in my mind wasn't going away since his face kept replaying in the back of my head, you shouldn't care Shayra you guys are friends- I reprimanded myself.
So much had happened in one week that it felt like a month had gone. Time is a weird thing. It doesn't pass when you want it to and when you wish to stay in a moment forever it ends in the blink of an eye.
In a single week, Dua had run away from her home, even I didn't know where she was but I just knew she was safe. Her family had filed a case against the Aziz and Azaan that they had kidnapped her and the Aziz family called it all lies. It didn't help that Dua's family had filed the case through our firm and the Aziz were one of our prominent clients so now I was deep in paperwork with my father personally handling the case. Where was Dua? No one knew. We just received a text the night she fled that she was safe and after that no calls, no text, it's like she disappeared off the face of the planet.
Her manager was handling her fashion house and honestly, I was glad she finally had the courage to leave her family instead of obeying them blindly despite her wanting the opposite. Sometimes it's better to leave a toxic household than stay caged in the regrets of your choices forever.
I reached the restaurant to find Aadil already there, it was an open rooftop restaurant, one of the most expensive ones in the city, "Sorry, I was working late."
"It's fine I just arrived." He said pulling the seat for me.
"I can do it myself." I said.
"As you wish." Aadil replied and sat on his place. The date wasn't bad all together, he was more interesting than he let on but I couldn't shake off the tugging feeling in my stomach.
I couldn't help but compare everything Aadil did with Kabir. Was Alizeh right all along? I hated to admit but Kabir was different. Suddenly, my heart started beating faster like it was competing to find its other half.
I turned around to find Kabir sitting in a table across me with some people I didn't recognize with. He was wearing a white shirt and had tousled hair which made me think he came here from work too. I was captivated by him momentarily, the way his sleek fingers ran through his hair and his eyes always glinting. Every smile that graced his lips made me feel jealous of the people sitting beside him, a warmth spread through my cheeks like I had never felt before. A smile which seemed to light up the room with kindness and charisma that resided within him.
