CHAPTER EIGHT written by ashe and janie unexpected sleepover
"Listen, you're gonna love it here. It's night shift so barely anyone's here." Mateo told Stella as he guided her from his car to the movie theater. "Usually it's packed on a Friday night, but since there's not many movies out right now..." He trailed off as the two reached the door and he opened it for her.
The smell of popcorn immediately hit the brunette in the face as she stepped into the movie theater. Her eyes scanned the somewhat empty room as Mateo jogged up to the counter to talk to one of his coworkers. The girl behind the counter giggled atrociously at something he said, twirling a rather large piece of blonde hair in between her fingers.
Stella awkwardly glanced away, crossing her arms to fight the sudden chill of the theater. Her tennis uniform wasn't helping either. Nervously she tugged at her skirt as the time passed by.
Mateo finally made his way back to her with a bucket of popcorn and two sodas. "I'm back. Amy says we can go to theater four. Trust me, it's a great movie." A small grin flashed across his features, "And it's on the house." He winked at Stella before he pushed past her, leading the way to the theater they were going to.
She tried to peer at the title of the movie that was playing, of course a movie that she didn't even know of. So she followed him in nevertheless and picked the seat right next to him.
"I didn't know what soda you wanted so I told Amy to surprise me." Mateo commented as the ads played on the screen.
"I love surprises." She joked, taking a sip out of the soda that he handed to her. It was Dr. Pepper, one of Stella's favorites. Not that she ever cared. As long as it was sugar, she loved it.
Mateo took a sip of his Coke and leaned back in his seat, thinking for a few minutes before he finally spoke up again, "You're pretty good at tennis."
"My dad taught me. It was our little thing, him and I," Stella looked over to meet his brown eyes. "My brother never found an interest in it, and my mom hated it."
Mateo nodded, not once letting his eyes leave hers. It took a few seconds for him to finally respond, looking away awkwardly. "That Mr. Jones is a fucking pedo though. Does he always lurk around like that when you play?"
The brunette shrugged. "You gotta learn to ignore it if you want to be on the team. He takes a lot of pictures too, telling us that it's for the end of the year slideshow, but I don't think that's the case."
"I saw that. Disgusting." Mateo shook his head, his face scrunching up in disgust. "And he acts like he can get bitches, but he's literally balding."
Stella glanced over at him, trying to stifle her laugh at the serious expression on his face. Mateo glanced over, shocked at her sudden fit of laughter before he finally joined in.
