"You both may rise for the Saptapadi," one of the pandits announced, and Jagdish assisted Nishita to stand beside him.

"Thanks," she muttered, to which he offered a smile.

As the pandit meticulously knotted the ends of their dupattas, each loop symbolizing the intricate bond they were about to forge, Jagdish found himself utterly captivated by Nishita's presence. The word 'beautiful' seemed inadequate to capture the sheer magnificence of her appearance on that auspicious day. Draped in a ghaghra choli adorned with shades of regal red and shimmering gold, she emanated a divine aura, akin to a celestial being gracing the mortal realm with her ethereal presence.

My Goddess!

His cheeks ached, uncontainable joy bubbling up from deep within him. His smile? Oh, it was practically reaching ear to ear, resembling that of a blissful lunatic who had fallen in love for the first time. After what felt like an eternity of yearning and anticipation—three whole years of it—she finally stood beside him, on the precipice of becoming his life partner, his wife.

The moment felt like something out of a dream—a surreal symphony of emotions crashing over him like waves, mixing happiness with relief in the most delicious cocktail. His heart? Racing like a Formula One car, fueled by pure exhilaration. And his mind? Ah, it found solace, sweet solace, in her serene presence, as if her mere existence had cast a soothing spell over the chaos of his thoughts.

She grasped his hand. "I won't walk first; he'll walk with me."

He blinked rapidly, crashing down to reality and trying to process what was happening.

The pandit explained that the ritual involved the bride leading the first four pheras and then the groom leading the next three, but Nishita stood her ground and declared, "If he's my life partner, everything should be mutual."

His smile widened as he gently tugged at her hand. "I'll walk with you. Come." With that, he stood beside her and began their journey together.

Nishita couldn't contain her smile.

In the midst of it all, she couldn't help but wonder if she was treading a fine line between genius and madness by tweaking the age-old ritual. Was it a bold stroke of brilliance or just plain foolishness? With her mother's disapproving stare burning holes into her and the sneaky suspicion that she might be exploiting Jagdish's unwavering affection, she couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty. Yet, amidst the chaos, there was a glimmer of something else—a rebellious streak, a whimsical urge to break free from the mold of the perfect bride.

And she was tired of acting.

In the cozy cocoon of Jagdish's company, it hit her like a ton of bricks - the more he wrapped her in comfort, the more she realized that playing a charade was just plain wrong. She'd said yes to Jagdish not just because she saw a twinkle in his eye for her, but because she felt it deep down: betraying her true self would be totally unfair to him. Maybe he was into the unfiltered Nishita, the one who wasn't afraid to be herself. So why on earth was she letting herself get swayed by her aunt's and other relatives' dubious advice? They may have had to adapt to different personas in the past, but she could see that Jagdish didn't want her to change. He might not fully comprehend her—after all, they hadn't spent much time together while living in different cities. But being together for just a few hours had forged a connection between them, a serenity that Nishita hadn't anticipated.

It was time to embrace her quirks and all and see where that led her - maybe straight into the arms of real love.

Even with Jagdish's generous offer to let her linger in her hometown a bit longer, she found herself tangled in indecision. The sudden significance of his presence puzzled her. The choice between departing Pune or staying became a mental tug-of-war. Yet, amidst their stroll around the Agni Kund, a wave of clarity washed over her. She grasped, with a heart brimming with warmth, that while Jagdish might be different for different people, for her, he was simply her darling husband.

A/N

I admire how Jagdish is stepping up to support Nishita more than anyone else around her. It's a testament to the transformative power of love. I've noticed that even when you feel like you've hit rock bottom and everything's going downhill, hearing encouraging words from someone you love can lift your spirits and motivate you like nothing else. It's not necessarily about romantic gestures; it could be a comforting call from your mom while you're struggling far away in a hostel, a text from your best friend wishing you luck for an interview - any small gesture of support can reignite hope. I consider myself fortunate to have a handful of people in my life who consistently care for and support me, even when I'm feeling hopeless.

And to you, dear readers, I can't express enough gratitude. When I started writing stories, I didn't have grand expectations (and I still don't). It's simply a hobby of mine, a way to bring a bit of joy to those who read and perhaps help them forget their troubles for a while, even if it's just through laughter at my characters' silly antics. But you all continue to surprise me with your constant reading and voting. And now, after I threw a bit of a tantrum, you've even started leaving comments! You're all amazing; I love every one of you to the moon and back or... the next galaxy and back!

Diverting from the theme of my song selection as this chapter demands a song that I have been waiting to add for so long... "Rehna Tu" for Jagdish and Nishita. Aww, I could imagine Jagdish singing this for Nishita.

Also, just for your information, I have started writing Yashoda and Veer's (short) story, do check it out if you want to read a dramatic/ epic love story. (They were quite entertaining, you know *winks*)
