Devika seized the perfect moment to swipe Jagdish's shoes while almost all his friends and siblings were preoccupied near the mandap. She exchanged a sly wink with Mohini, who grinned back approvingly. Instead of hiding Jagdish's shoes in some obscure corner, Devika had a stroke of genius—she slipped them right onto her own feet. Who would think to look for them there? After all, what better place to stash them than right under everyone's noses? She knew Jagdish was wealthy enough to shell out a handsome reward, maybe even enough to throw a lavish dinner party at a fancy restaurant.

But, she wanted to steal those shoes for other reasons, for something that she had requested from Nishita long back.

The funniest part of the entire scheme was that, despite the shoes being nowhere near her size, Devika somehow managed to wear them comfortably enough to avoid raising any eyebrows. Her ghagra was draped low, perfectly concealing the oversized shoes beneath its folds. From her discreet vantage point, Devika watched with barely suppressed amusement as Subhadra and Krishna frantically scoured the area, desperately searching for the missing footwear. Every time they came up empty-handed, her grin widened.

She couldn't help but feel a swell of pride at the brilliance of her plan. There she stood, right in the middle of the chaos, the shoes safely hidden in plain sight, reveling in the success of her clever ruse.

With a spring in her step and a mischievous glint in her eye, Devika strutted around, knowing they were in for a treat.

"Return the shoes," a deep voice commanded from behind, making her jump. She spun around to find Chandrakant standing there, arms crossed and a stern look on his face. She had just ventured into Nishita's room to grab some safety pins that Nishita had urgently requested. Little did she know, Chandrakant had been tailing her the entire time.

Devika narrowed her eyes and shot back, "I didn't steal them," before resuming her search for the stupid safety pins. Her annoyance spiked as Chandrakant stepped closer, invading her personal space. "You don't even want to talk to me, so why are you following me?" she snapped, rummaging through the drawer with increasing frustration.

"I just want Jaggy's shoes," he replied sternly, his tone unwavering. This only fueled her irritation further.

She grabbed a pillow from the bed and hurled it at him. "Get out! This is the bride's room, and you're not allowed here!"

Totally unfazed by her action, he kept moving closer at a snail's pace until he was practically breathing the same air. "Devika ji," he murmured, his voice a low, sexy growl that made her toes curl. "I see you're wearing Jaggy's shoes. Sure, I could yank them off you, but let's not get rough, okay?" His words, laced with a dark promise, sent a delicious shiver racing down her spine. She looked into his dark eyes, unsure if it was lust or anger she saw, but either way, it was intense.

She grabbed his collar, pulling him close as she hissed, "Don't you dare pretend to be a gentleman after what you did to me that night." Her words dripped with venom, fueling the fire in his eyes. In a swift, almost primal move, he seized her throat and pinned her against the wall, their bodies pressed tightly together. She gasped, her breath mingling with his as she whispered, "Kant..." The air between them crackled with a heady mix of anger and undeniable attraction, the line between the two blurring with every heartbeat.

Pressing himself against her, he murmured, "What do you want, Devi?" His lips were just centimeters away from hers, and she craned her head to close the distance. "What the hell do you want from me? Why do you keep testing my limits?"

A/N

Finally, Chandrakant and Devika meet, alone!

I guess, I finally found a troupe for them, strangers turned enemies turned lovers. I guess that's what it is about them. Or is it something else? Cause they aren't actually enemies :')

"Rait Zara Si" for Mr. Baggy and his goddess- Devi.
