"did hair, makeup, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, washed my face, filled up my water bottle, I'm wearing shoes, got keys to the car..." Brooke frowns, going over her mental checklist, knowing that there's something she's forgetting.
Tim is amusedly watching, he knows what she forgot, and they're sitting right on the counter, but he's going to let her struggle for just a few more minutes before helping her out.
"my phone!" Brooke realizes, before looking down and seeing her phone already clutched in her left hand.
Tim smirks, waiting for her to see what's right in front of her.
"what am I forgetting?" Brooke groans.
Her eyes scan the living room of Tim's condo that has started to become Brooke's condo too, though Tim won't let Brooke give him rent money yet. The living room is next to the kitchen so Brooke gives a cursory scan of the kitchen as well, her eyes passing over the white medicine bottle sitting on the counter, just waiting to be noticed.
Tim glances at the clock, realizing that this funny little show needs to end so they'll be at work on time.
"have you taken your birth control yet?" Tim asks, raising an eyebrow.
"that's it!" Brooke realizes, checking the time on her phone and sighing in relief when she realizes she's still in the ten minute window for her birth control.
Brooke immediately scampers over to the pill bottle, downing a pill with water.
"thank you" Brooke smiles, kissing Tim's cheek.
"you were never gonna figure it out if I hadn't told you" Tim teases, following Brooke to the door.
"I would've... it just might've taken a while" Brooke tries to defend herself, making Tim chuckle.
"oh, wait" Brooke stops.
"what?" Tim asks, his eyebrows furrowing.
"I didn't get the clothes for our date tonight" Brooke replies, running back into the house.
[Time Skip]
"All right. Look alive, look alive. Officer Nolan, you ready?" Grey says, starting roll call.
"Yes, sir." Nolan nods, perking up.
"Good. Now, answer me this. What is your favorite part about the job? And don't say "To make a difference."" Grey asks.
"I wasn't going to. But it is." Nolan says, a little cheekily.
"What's your least favorite?" Grey asks.
"Oh, that's easy. Paperwork." Nolan replies.
Like on cue, Captain Anderson enters the room in a patrol uniform. Brooke and Angela share a smile, both of them look up to Anderson. She's the youngest Captain in LAPD history, and only the third woman to be a Captain. Captain Anderson is a badass.
"Imagine how I feel." Captain Anderson says while people murmur about her outfit and presence.
"All right." Angela grins.
"Most of what a captain does is paperwork. 'Cause of that, I feel like I've lost touch with what being a cop is really about. People. It's not only the citizens that we serve and protect. It's every single one of you in this room. So, to remedy that, I've decided Sergeant Grey and I are gonna ride patrol today." Anderson decides.
"Together?" Tim pipes up next to Brooke.
"No. We're each gonna ride with a rookie, and their respective T.O.s will pair up." Captain Anderson answers.
