When I was a child, I always loved the fact that I lived next to a beach. It's not as common as some people might think it is when you live in Hawaii.

Azura Beach was my home away from home whenever mom and I would get into arguments. In my teen years, we butted heads a lot.

I used to run away here knowing that I wasn't too far from home, in case I wanted to run back and far away enough to be on my own. Eventually, my mom found out where I would go. But whenever I would leave, she never dragged me back home. She waited until I came back on my own.

I walked towards the cove and sat near the edge. I needed to think, but I also needed to get out of my bed. He can't be here. I came here to get away from him. How did he even know my ad-

Aolani.

I took out my phone and opened WhatsApp. I dialed her number and the longer it took her to answer, the more annoyed I got. She answered on the last ring. "Hey best friend," she said. "How's home?"

"Santiago showed up on my doorstep an hour after I did," I grit. "How did he get my address, Aolani?"

She doesn't respond for a few moments. "He showed up here, practically on the edge of a nervous breakdown. He seemed extremely genuine, and I started to believe all that talk you gave me about him. He wants a second chance, and I helped him get there."

I pause for a few moments. A little part of me is grateful for what she has done, and I know a large part of me would've been mad if I found out there was a chance of Santiago chasing after me and she stopped him.

"I have to go," I say. "I'll call you later."

I hung up the phone and slumped against the rock. I closed my eyes and listened to the shore and different people enjoying the beach. I could feel myself relaxing before I felt something launch in my head. My body is thrown forward and I quickly have a pounding headache.

I turn around with a blazing anger growing in me. It staggers when I'm met with a familiar face. He runs up to me, covered in sweat and a Hawaiian tan. "I'm so sorry. My brother and I- Leilani? Is that you?"

I waved at him. "Hey Abel. Long time no see. If you wanted to talk, you could've come up to me instead of throwing a ball at my head."

He smiles causing his dimple to pop as he realizes I'm not about to grill him for the accident. "Noted for next time. What are you doing here?"

I sigh. Where to start? I'm in love. I'm in pain. The guy doesn't feel the same. He made me feel like shit after having sex with me. "Thought I would come and visit my family. I hadn't seen them in a while."
