Chapter 53.

When the family of three reached home after a tense drive from the Sage launch venue, they were unaware of the revelations that had unfolded in their absence.

Su-Jin immediately rushed to get her mother an ice pack to reduce the swelling on her face. Returning to the living room, she noticed her father, Min-Jun, sitting there with a glass of red wine. The servant must have brought it while she was getting the ice pack. Min-Jun sipped the wine, staring into space, completely ignoring the presence of his wife and daughter. Without a word, he eventually stood up and headed to his study, deep in thought, leaving both women feeling more than a little abandoned. Min Jun sat in his study, replaying the evening's events in his mind. Ae Cha's transformation was astonishing. She had become even more captivating and powerful than he remembered, and this realization disturbed him deeply.

This behaviour infuriated both Lee Ari and Su-Jin. Su-Jin, desperate for answers, turned to her mother with curiosity and frustration evident in her eyes.

"Who was that woman? And why did she make you lose your composure like that?" Su-Jin asked, her voice edged with both concern and impatience.

Seeing her daughter's curiosity, Lee Ari decided to twist the truth to paint herself as the victim. She began her tale, her voice filled with bitterness. "That woman, Ae-Cha, is my twin sister. A fraternal twin she was jealous of the relationship I and your father had, she couldn't stand that I was better than her in many ways, so she devised a plan. She seduced your father by drugging him and had that illegitimate child, the ger beside her." She made that assumption because of their resemblance, and he had called Ae Cha mom.

Su-Jin's eyes widened with shock and anger. This revelation gave her another reason to despise Kim Jae-Soo. How dare a mistress and her illegitimate child step on her and her mother's heads?

Su-Jin clenched her fists, a determined look settling on her face. She was not going to let this slide. She would find a way to put Kim Jae-Soo and his mother in their place.

Her mother's twisted version of the past fueled her desire for vengeance. She was determined to find a way to make Kim Jae Soo and his mother pay for the perceived wrongs they had committed against her family.

Lee Ari seethed with rage as she nursed her swollen cheek. She wasn't just going to let this humiliation pass; she was determined to reclaim her dignity and put her sister, Ae-Cha, back in her place. The first step in her plan was to rally their parents and younger brother to her side.

"Su-Jin," she said, her voice dripping with venom, "we need to ensure that our family knows exactly what Ae-Cha is trying to do. She's trying to steal your father away from me and take over my position as Mrs. Choi."

Su-Jin nodded, her own anger simmering. "What do we do, Mom?"

Lee Ari took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "We'll visit your grandparents tomorrow. They need to know how Ae-Cha has come back into our lives with malicious intent. And we'll tell your uncle as well. He's always been on our side."

When the launch was over Nari followed the An Family home, ignoring Man Sung Ho's attempts to trick him into going back with him. Sung Ho was met with glares from Nari's older siblings, making him quickly realize that winning over Nari would require not only charm but also the approval of his in-laws. With a sigh and a resigned smile, Sung Ho bid them goodnight and headed to meet Ji Hu, who was with his grandmother.

As Ji Hu's grandmother, Madam Bang, scanned the room, her eyes fell on Kim Jae Soo. She froze, recognizing him as the boy she had met at the bus stop months earlier. The realization that this was the same boy filled her with a mix of surprise and curiosity. Just as she was about to approach him, Ji Hu was already being dragged away by Man Sung Ho.

Determined to find out more, Madam Baek decided she would ask Ji Hu about the ger when they got home. Her sharp eyes had not missed the brief, intense interactions between Ji Hu and Kim Jae Soo, and she was eager to understand the dynamics at play.

Meanwhile, as the program ended, another pressing issue arose in Ae Cha's mind. She needed confirmation whether Ji Su was indeed her long-lost son, In Soo. After concluding her conversation with Mr. Lu and bidding him goodnight, she observed that Ji Su and Shin Young hadn't left yet. She watched Kim Jae Soo sign to Ji Su, who smiled and nodded in response. Ji Su then looked to Shin Young, who also nodded.

The sight of Ji Su using sign language stirred a deep well of emotions in Ae Cha. Over the years, clinging to the hope of finding her son, she had learned sign language herself, believing it would help her communicate with him when she finally found him, or teach him sign language if he hadn't already learned it. Ji Su's mannerisms, the way he signed, and everything about him kept reminding her of her child, In Soo.

'This is how In soo would be if he was grown'

Ae Cha took a deep breath, summoning her courage. She approached the small group, her heart pounding with hope and fear. "Mr. Shin, Ji su" she began softly, her voice trembling slightly, "could we talk for a moment?"

Ae Cha led them to the suite she had booked for herself and Kim Jae Soo. The tension in the air was palpable, a heavy silence hanging between them. Kim Jae Soo and his mother sat together on a plush, long couch, while Shin Young and Shin Ji Su took individual chairs across from them.

Ae Cha's mind raced, her heart pounding as she struggled to find the right words. The stakes felt impossibly high. She looked at Ji Su, who seemed just as confused and anxious. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out. She felt a lump in her throat, the weight of unspoken questions pressing down on her.

Sensing her hesitation, Shin Young decided to break the silence. "Ms. Kim, I know you have questions," he said, his voice calm and reassuring.

Ae Cha snapped out of her thoughts, taking a deep breath. "Apologies if I sound rude, but..." She paused, her eyes darting to Ji Su. She was searching for a delicate way to phrase her question, a way that wouldn't seem intrusive or hurtful.

Shin Young, understanding her struggle, interjected gently. "You're wondering if Ji Su is my biological child," he said matter-of-factly as if discussing the weather.

Ae Cha and Kim Jae Soo's hearts skipped a beat at his words. They leaned in slightly, hanging on his every word.

"Biological, no," Shin Young continued, his gaze steady and kind. "But adopted, yes."

A wave of emotions washed over Ae Cha and Kim Jae Soo—hope, relief, and a flicker of something they hadn't felt in a long time. Ae Cha's eyes welled up with tears, but she quickly blinked them away, trying to maintain her composure.

"Can you tell us more?" Ae Cha asked, her voice barely above a whisper, as if speaking too loudly might shatter the fragile moment.

Shin Young nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. so he began his explanation.
