Ash waited for the boys to come back home. She was worried about Abhi. The boy needed to be told the truth about his mother. Arjun was procrastinating. Nina's body was in the morgue. If the boy wanted to see his mother for the last time, it would be his only chance. If she left it upto Arjun he would forever protect the boy against the potential pain, but she knew a truth like that should not come from a third person.
The boy needed to learn the truth from his Bhaiyu. They fought over it, but Ash stood firm till Arjun gave in. They decided to tell Abhi the truth as soon as he was back from school. She saw the boys walking inside and rose to greet them. The smile on Abhi's face, tugged at her heartstrings. She could understand why her bhaiyu was apprehensive. The boy was learning to smile, she was terrified the news would wash the smile away from his face.
"Hey Di" Abhi rushed to greet her. Ash opened her arms for him without a second thought. When she met him first she never knew she would come to love him. He had been a snooty mouth teenager, with troubled eyes. Since the moment her husband told her that he had put himself in the line of fire to protect an officer, he had her respect, but surprisingly love found a way rather quickly.
"Hey, bachcha" She guided him to the couch gently and helped him sit. Despite being injured the boy acted careless. If his Bhaiyu or Roohi were at home, he would have received an earful for his act.
"How was school?"
"Good" Abhi smiled, "how was your day?"
Ash sat down with the boys. That was something else she admired in the boy, he reciprocated in kind. Victims of abuse found it hard to deal with kindness. Statistics showed that such victims were trapped in the cycle and needed time to break free. Abhi on the other hand wanted to set himself free. The boy was not a victim, he was a survivor!
