Chapter 17

Light streamed through the crack of the curtains, illuminating the dust within the air as it danced downwards. The room was all but silent with only the sound of Marc's breathing as any indication that we were in the hotel room. I was tucked into his chest, my head rest just above his heart which was steady and ever so calming. His arm was draped lightly over my waist and I had never felt so calm and relaxed.

I curled more into Marc's side, making the most of the well-earned break after all of the drama yesterday brought us. The rest would be short and we would almost immediately make a move towards Germany where the second pack was. Marc had already said this would be harder as all packs would have already been alerted of the goings on in France. Granted it made me nervous but this was how the next few weeks were going to be. Sighing, I draped my arm over my eyes to block at the first rays of early morning sunshine. My mind was already far too awake in comparison to my body which was still sleep clogged.

"Stop thinking," Marc mumbled, startling me slightly.

"Sorry and how did you know anyway?"

"I could practically hear your thoughts and plus your face was scrunched up ever so slightly. A tell-tale sign that you were clearly thinking," Marc smiled, burying his head into the pillow.

I huffed before placing my head back on his chest, his arms wrapping round my waist pulling me closer. I smiled at that notion and sleeping next to someone was even more soothing than I thought and the fact that it was my mate made it even more significant. A kiss was placed on the top of my head, it was so delicate I barely felt it but that intimate moment made me blush fiercely. My cheeks instantly reddening.

"So is it Germany next and the same process," I asked, my voice slightly muffled by my head on his chest.

"Mmm. That is the plan. Although I think we should give it two weeks for all the suspicion to die down," Marc suggested.

"We don't have that long. We need to stop as many packs as possible as quick as possible."

"Look. This war has lasted 16 years already. I was only two when it all started. Trust me when I say that the King and Queen can last a couple of weeks."

"But people are dying Marc. This war is destroying the kingdom. It needs to stop as soon as possible. We can't just sit here and do nothing," I spoke exasperated, now sitting up and looking down at Marc who was still laid down.

"Look. I understand Annabella. I really do but we have to stay logical. Us getting caught for being too hasty would only make everything worse and we will have done little to help. Trust me on this," Marc reasoned, taking hold of my hand.

I nodded in a muted response. For me, I just wanted all of this over so I could find out who I really was, who my parents really were and try and regain any kind of life possible. I guess the quicker this was over, the quicker I could find the real me.
