The recess bell rang, signaling the end for the session. Abhi rose in a hurry. He had a half day permission. Ash was coming to pick him up in an hour, before that he intended to finish his work in the library. Though the librarian told him he did not have to do it, Abhi could not rest till he get it done. Mia was the only one working alongside him, if he did not finish it, the burden would fall on her.
He was in such a hurry that he forgot his crutch. Manny chased behind him and caught up with him in the hallway. Abhi shot him an annoyed glare. The more he tried to avoid Manny, the more he struck to his side like glue.
"Now what, Manny?" Abhi did not mask his annoyance like he usually did. Manny ignored it and handed him the crutch. "Why do you keep forgetting this, Abhi? Don't you know you will worsen your injury without this?"
Abhi sighed. The guy had a heart of gold. He wanted to be friends with Manny, but a part of him was scared. He was too damaged, and Manny was too pure. He did not deserve to friends with someone so innocent. Manny ignored his silence and helped him with the crutch.
"Why are you in a hurry? Di will not come for another hour. There is enough time"
"I know" Abhi said not wanting to hurt Manny's feelings with his silence. "I needed to finish the library work. I can't put in extra time today so...."
"Dude you don't have to work the day you are not in school. That is the rule remember" Manny reminded him.
"I know, but there is too much work today. It's a weekend, Mia would be swamped, I don't....."

Truth was he was a little scared of her. where Manny was all fun and bubbly, Mia was reserved and spoke very less. she kept to herself and her books, when she spoke it was to the point and she did not hesitate to call a spade a spade.
