Chapter 61

Lee Ari sat restlessly, her thoughts consumed with the idea of Min Jun calling Ae Cha and trying to contact lawyers to reestablish their marriage. She had always known deep down that Min Jun's heart was never fully hers. His excuses over the years that Ae Cha was refusing to sign the divorce papers had always been a thorn in her side. She remembered the humiliation she felt when she convinced Min Jun to take her to the Gu office for marriage registration, only to be told they couldn't marry because Min Jun was still legally bound to Ae Cha. This realization had fueled her relentless search for Ae Cha, determined to secure the divorce that would finally make Min Jun hers.

Su Jin's voice interrupted her anxious nail-biting. "Eomma," Su Jin said, bringing her mother out of her troubled thoughts. Su Jin had a look of determination in her eyes as she approached her mother. "Since we couldn't get Jae Soo using those gangsters, we need to think of another plan."

Lee Ari sighed, running a hand through her hair. "You're right, Su Jin. We need to be smarter about this. Confrontation won't work."

Su Jin nodded, her mind already whirring with possibilities.

Lee Ari and Su Jin decided to go shopping to cheer themselves up, hoping to clear their heads and devise a better plan against Ae Cha and Jae Soo. They entered an upscale ger and women's clothing store, immersing themselves in the surrounding luxury. As they browsed through the clothes, soft laughter and familiar voices caught their attention. Turning around, they saw the two thorns in their flesh: Kim Jae Soo and Ae Cha, who had just walked into the store.

Kim Jae Soo exuded an ethereal charm. His tousled, shoulder-length hair, a deep rich brown, framed his fair, glowing face. His large, almond-shaped eyes, a striking light brown, sparkled with happiness, their depth highlighted by delicate, dark eyelashes. His full, pink lips, slightly parted, added to his dreamy look. Jae Soo's smooth, radiant skin reflected health and careful hydration, completing his soft yet captivating appearance. Ae Cha, likewise, was stunning, and it was clear where Jae Soo had inherited his beauty.

Lee Ari and Su Jin stood speechless for a moment, their eyes narrowing as they glared at the pair. Kim Jae Soo and Ae Cha seemed unaware of their presence, as an attendant introduced them to a stylish gown. The mother and daughter watched in annoyance, their anger simmering.

Finally, they decided to make their presence known. Lee Ari cleared her throat loudly, drawing the attention of the store's staff and the two people they loathed. When Ae Cha and Jae Soo turned towards them, the air seemed to crackle with one-sided tension, sparks flying from Lee Ari and Su Jin's side, met only with indifference from Ae Cha and Jae Soo.

Ae Cha's expression remained calm, but a glint of steel entered her eyes. She exchanged a glance with Jae Soo, who looked equally unperturbed. They stood firm, watching the spectacle that Lee Ari and Su Jin were making of themselves.

"People who can't afford things shouldn't waste other people's time," Lee Ari proclaimed loudly, drawing the attention of other customers who began to gather, eager for some drama.

Su Jin, never one to miss a chance to support her mother's malicious intent, chimed in, "Yes, mom is right. Depending on a married man to pay your bills, isn't that shameful?"

The murmurs from the onlookers grew louder. "Such a beautiful woman is a mistress," one person whispered.

"So that means the ger beside her is an illegitimate child," another added, their words meant to sting.

Ae Cha and Jae Soo remained composed, their expressions unchanging as they let the accusations wash over them. When the two women seemed to have exhausted their venom, Ae Cha turned to the attendant with a composed smile. "We'll take the gown," she said firmly. "And everything else we've selected."

The attendant, flustered by the tension, nodded quickly and began to gather their chosen items. Then, turning to face Lee Ari, Ae Cha spoke again, her voice calm but edged with steel. "Only a guilty person would mix up black and white. Don't accuse others of what you are guilty of."

Kim Jae Soo's soft yet confident smile never wavered. He turned and left with his mother to meet the attendant and collect their things, completely ignoring the venomous looks from Ari and Su Jin. The two women could only seethe in silence, their attempt at humiliation backfiring spectacularly.

As Ae Cha and Jae Soo continued their shopping, Su Jin leaned in towards her mother, her voice a harsh whisper. "We need to find a way to bring them down, Eomma. This is intolerable."

Lee Ari nodded, her eyes never leaving Ae Cha. "We will, Su Jin. We will."

As they headed to the counter, Jae Soo leaned in closer to his mother and whispered, "Do you think they'll ever get tired?"

Ae Cha chuckled softly. "Let them try. They'll only tire themselves out in the end. We have more important things to focus on."

Jae Soo nodded, feeling reassured by his mother's confidence. As they collected their purchases and left the store, the whispered conversations among the other customers faded into the background as they looked at the two women in contempt, leaving Lee Ari and Su Jin fuming in their wake.

When Lee Ari got home alone—her daughter had halfway left to meet with friends—she started anxiously biting at her already short fingernails. The stress of her sister's perceived superiority gnawed at her insides, building a rage that she couldn't contain.

"Ugh!!!" she screamed, her eyes flashing red with fury. In a fit of anger, she swiped everything off her dresser, sending bottles, brushes, and jewelry crashing to the floor. "That bitch! She thinks she can take what belongs to me!"

Her breaths came in ragged gasps as she stared at the mess she'd created, her reflection in the mirror showing a woman on the edge of breaking. "I hate her, I hate her," she repeated, her voice dropping to a crazed whisper. Her hands shook as she clenched them into fists. Desperation clawed at her mind. She had to do something, anything, to stop Ae Cha.

A thought crossed her mind—a desperate, reckless idea. She hadn't spoken to him in years, but maybe he could help. Maybe he could make Ae Cha pay. Her heart pounded as she reached for her phone, her fingers trembling. She scrolled through her contacts, hesitating for just a moment before pressing the call button.

The phone rang, and with each ring, her anxiety mounted. Finally, the call connected.

"What do you want, Ari?" The voice on the other end was cold yet flirty.

"I need your help," she said, her voice breaking slightly.

There was a pause, and then the voice on the other end replied, "Meet me tomorrow. Same place as before."

The call ended, leaving Lee Ari standing in the middle of her wrecked room, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and anticipation.
