"I don't know why, but I'm terribly nervous! It's not like it's MY proposal." I scoffed aloud to Seb as we packed up the twin's bag and prepared for our Christmas away from home.
"I know. It's my sister and my best friend. I should be so happy for them! But... it feels weird."
"Yeah, right? I mean, it's Anne and Omi. I just... I guess I feel like it's obvious but... "
"It's weird." He finished my sentence.
I looked at him. "You know what's really weird, though?"
He stopped to look at me, too.
"Us."
He chuckled. "Yes. We met when we were fifteen. Pregnant at seventeen. Married at eighteen. Broken up more times than I can count. Yes, darling. We are weird. So, who are we to judge?" He suddenly pulled me to him and lifted me up on top of his feet, holding me close.
"Well, I'd say we're pretty solid now. Wouldn't you? I mean, we're even..."
"Finishing each other's sentences?" He said with a quiet chortle.
"Yes. But we've always sort of done that. Hey, I just remembered something..."
"What's that, love?" He asked, pushing my hair away from my face and looking deeply into my eyes.
"When I first met Isabella. She described my parents' relationship to me. And... strangely, it reminded me of us. The way she described how my father used to look at my mother. And they finished each other's sentences. How they were ready to burn down the world for each other..."
I matched his motion with my own, pushing his hair back from his face and tangling my fingers in the back of it.
"Love, I would burn down this world or any other for you. Or our children."
"Me too." I said firmly.
He pressed his lips to mine, gently.
It was sweet. And full of love.
I pulled away. "Sebastian. I love you. So much."
"I love you, too, darling. More than anything."
"Anything?"
"Yes. I always have."
"And you always keep your word." I smiled at him. He chuckled.
"You're finally learning that."
He set me back on my feet and we went to grab the twins to head to Anne and Omi's house in Hogsmeade.
--
I swallowed my last sip of wine from my glass. The twins were out cold in their bassinette, warm by the fire. Auntie Anne and Uncle Omi had absolutely spoiled them. They gave them matching rattles that they rattled all the way until they fell asleep. Also, toy wands that they brandished at each other while giggling. And they each got two new outfits including matching Christmas nightclothes that I put them in. They looked so adorable!
My heart ached for them as they slept with their little fingers clenching each other and their free hands clenching their rattles.
Sebastian came up from behind me, snaking his arms around my waist like usual and setting his chin on my shoulder. "They look so happy." He said softly.
"They are. Look how cute they are in those jammies! With their little rattles..."
"I know. It's too adorable." He kissed my cheek softly. "By the way, I think the show is about to start, darling. If we turn around slowly, we can watch discreetly without ruining the moment."
