"Shit!" He swore under his breath. The tip of the graphite pencil had snapped and broken off. He shot up from his seat, throwing the pencil to the floor and rushing to his bag. He might as well have ripped his bag open from how aggressively he handles it. He pulled out a pen and ran back to his seat.

He vigorously wrote in the notebook. Trying his best to keep his writing neat while also speeding to get it done. He didn't know how long he had to write the words down, but he was determined to make as many copies as he could. He had already downloaded copies onto his computer, but it wasn't enough. He needed more insurance. His fingers were cramping and his writing got more sloppy. He breathed a sigh of relief when he finished another copy. He leaned back against his desk chair, putting a hand on his forehead, covering his eyes. He could feel a headache starting to come in.

His door swung open, slamming against the wall and shaking the door. He jumped up, lifting himself off the seat.

"Mezo!" A woman smiled.

He sighed and sat back down on the chair, "Mom."

She giggled and grabbed the door and gently closed it, "Sorry, sorry. These doors are just so light." She made her way to his desk, "What are you doing?" His eyes widened and he immediately collected all of the papers in one pile, facing them down. He closed his computer and placed the papers on top of it.

"Just some early studying."

"About what?"

Mezo looked up at his mother, "Just general stuff. Did you need anything?"

She leaned against his desk, "Well, it's really late. Why are you still up?" Mezo shrugged, keeping an arm laying on the papers. "Did you even eat dinner?" He stayed silent. "Did you?"

"I'm fine."

"Mezo, you need to eat. I saw that Dad made some curry. It looked really good."

"I'm not really hungry."

"Mezo, it's too late. Go get food and sleep. How long have you been up?" She squinted her eyes and used a finger to motion for him to come closer. "Your eyes are so red. You need sleep."

"I will. I will. I just need to finish this last problem."

She shook her head, "You say that then take five hours. Go to bed."

"Can I eat?"

She sighed, "Yes, you can eat. But no more work. You still have time before school starts."

"Okay," he got up from his seat and followed her out the door. She kissed his goodnight as she entered her bedroom. Mezo continues down the hall to the stairs and descends. He moves around the stairs and enters the open concept kitchen. Going over to the stove where two pots stood, he removes the lid to one of the pots. He grimaced at the smell. It was cold and had been sitting for hours, the appealing scent was gone.

He turned on the dial of the stove, the flames bursting in order around the ring. He let the pot heat up and planned to go into the living room when suddenly his vision went dark. He reached his hand out to grab anything to stabilize him. His feet crossed over themselves, making him trip and fall, leaning towards his right.

His head slapped the wooden floors. He turned to his back, groaning. "Ah, fuck." He put his hand over his eyes and lifted it up against his forehead. "Shit," he muttered. He focused on his breathing, taking in big gulps of air.

He reached his hand out, swaying it side to side as he tried to feel for the knob of the stove. Once his fingertips could reach, he turned it almost all the way off. It ticked. He grunted, scooting over slightly to fill in the small gap and put out the flame. He let his hand fall on his chest. His head ached, his stomach felt starved, his eyelids were heavy, and his body was tired.
