It was sunset and I wanted to soak up the last bit of sun while I could. I ended up falling asleep, resting in my chair out on the balcony.

"Mara, guess what time it is?" My father taunted, his footsteps stomping slowly down the stairs and towards my little cell. My eyes stared open wide in horror as I saw his hands. They were surrounded by a dark purple and black cloud.

"What-what's that?" I trembled. He smirks, laughing as my mother could be heard making her way down the stairs now too, her entering into my cell with the same glowing ominous hands.

"It's called magic, but this sort of magic is what people call, dark magic." My father chuckles and he and my mother slowly advance forward, everything going black as my screams echo out in agony.

" Mara. You have to get up, Mara." Someone tries to wake me quietly. Mia..?

"Hmm? W-what are you doing down here?" My sister hovers over me, a worried expression on her face as she soundlessly rushes me.

"I'm here to get you out of here." She replies, unchaining me from the wall.

"Mia? Of all the things you could have done with your life, you choose to help that.. thing! Run away?! You're my daughter, Mia! Sh-" My father had caught us. The hurt and betrayal overridden with pure ire.

"She's your daughter too!! She always has been! His death has nothing t-" My sister cries, my father's rising temper forcing me to hide behind my sister.

"Her existence was nothing more than a mistake! She means nothing to us.. She should be dead! And thanks to her, that vile thing... you too must die, Mia."

~

"No, please! Father, stop!! Please!!" I hid under the stairs, just moments after the last event to transpire. My sister had tried to push me to escape. My sister screams as she is brought down by our father, my will to escape suddenly diminishes as I stand in shell shock. He looks at me, the murderous intent so strong I was surprised I wasn't dead already. I cry out, taking a step forward as he steps away from my sister, letting her body drop to the floor carelessly. I watched through the tears, wanting to run to her so badly, but he stood in my way.

"Oh, looky here. Come to say your last words, kid? Better hurry, 'cause soon you'll end up just like her." He warns darkly, deciding to leave. I rush to her side quickly, not able to keep the tears away.

"M-Mia?" I cried out as she looks up at me painfully. I whimpered, my heart wrenching for the only person I had.

"It's going to be alright, Mara. Hmm.. It feels like just the other day I gave you that name." She smiles weakly. I shook my head rapidly, clutching onto her hand tightly with both of my little hands.

"Please! Please, don't leave me. You promised! You can't break a promise." I cried, throwing myself onto her. Knowing I was in the blood, but I was desperate to get her to stay.

"I will always be with you, Mara. Remember that." She shakily reaches into her pocket, one of her celestial keys slipping out and clattering on the floor.

"One of your keys?" I sniffled.

"It was the only one I could get off my belt before father took them." She grins weakly, like she had made a huge power move. I nod, picking up the key and holding it closely. Her breathing was shallow, and even as a young child I knew she was about to die.

"Can you, sing for me, like you always do?" I try softly, knowing this might be the last time I'd hear her soothing lullaby ever again.

"Yes. But first, Mara. You need to listen to me, you have magic within you. You just need to focus on it. Use it, destroy them both, by whatever means necessary. So, you can be free." I stare at her at the new quest, not sure if I was worthy or even possible to carry out such a mission. How could I? She smiles, weakly placing a hand on mine. I sniff, as I look at the floor in question and uncertainty. My hand started to fold on itself, feeling as though it was in a slow bone crushing grip. I looked up from my hand, the same one my sister was holding. She was clutching it so tightly. It hurt.
