After spending a long time with Guai zi on the mountain before, Lu Gu could naturally recognize its barking, and if there were several dogs coming down from the mountain, who else could it be but Shen Xuanqing?

"It's Second Brother," Shen Yan said, having heard the dog's barking too.

"Yeah." Lu Gu's heart was filled with joy and excitement, but it was still time to feed the rabbits. He glanced at Shen Yan and said, "Let's finish feeding the rabbits quickly, and then we can go back and take a look."

He hadn't seen Shen Xuanqing in half a month, and though he didn't realize it, what he was feeling was called "missing."

The two of them, who had just been taking their time, suddenly sped up their work, quickly getting the rabbits fed. But before they even got back to the house, they were greeted by Guai zi who had run out halfway to meet them.

The mountain road was long, and usually, after running such a distance, Guai zi would lie down to rest. But now, it had come out looking for Lu Gu.

Guai zi wagged its tail non-stop, whining excitedly. Lu Gu reached down to rub the dog's head, smoothing its fur. The dog was full of affection, and only then could they continue walking forward with Guai zi happily following.

Not just Lu Gu, Guai zi also jumped on Shen Yan, putting its front paws on her and wagging its tail quickly.

As soon as they entered the yard, Lu Gu saw Shen Xuanqing washing his face. Having thought about him for the past few days, seeing him now, Lu Gu couldn't help but smile. His eyebrows lifted with joy, and the corners of his mouth curled up, unable to stay flat. He said softly, "You're back."

Shen Xuanqing was still washing his face, the water dripping down his chin, but as soon as he heard Lu Gu's gentle and sweet voice, the strong, rugged look on his face softened into tenderness. He smiled and nodded, replying, "I'm back."

As Shen Xuanqing looked up, Lu Gu noticed a long scratch on his cheek. It wasn't bleeding, but the mark was clear.

"Did you get poked by a branch again?" Lu Gu asked as he walked forward, raising his head to inspect it more closely. Once he was sure there were no other injuries, he felt relieved.

Shen Xuanqing smiled and explained, "No, it happened yesterday when I was chasing a black-hoofed sheep. I ran too fast and got scratched by a hard branch."

When Lu Gu had walked into the yard, he had seen a wild sheep and a dwarf deer tied up, but he hadn't paid much attention at the time. Hearing Shen Xuanqing's explanation, he turned to look at them now.

Shen Xuanqing grabbed a wild bath bead from the kitchen window, dipped it in water, rubbed it between his hands until it foamed, and happily washed his hands and face.

Just then, Ji Qiuyue came out of the kitchen, holding a bowl of hot water. She handed it to Shen Xuanqing as he was drying his hands, then joined Lu Gu and Shen Yan, smiling as they admired the wild sheep.

Shen Yaoqing and Wei Lanxiang were still busy in the fields, so only the younger family members were home.

After a few sips of water, Shen Xuanqing let out a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "The ewes are more stubborn than the rams, but they're easier to lead on the road. If they were all rams and stags, the journey would have been much more troublesome."

There were several people gathered in the front yard, and the sheep and deer looked a little scared, keeping their eyes on everyone. Ji Qiuyue noticed this and said, "Yanyan, come help me take them to the backyard and tie them up."

Whenever live prey was brought home, it was kept in the backyard. Shen Yan knew the routine well. She untied the ewe's rope from the stake, and with Guai zi and Da Hui keeping watch, the ewe walked obediently, albeit with a low grumble, to the backyard.
