Catherine had been feeling sick for weeks, so after vomiting for a week she decided to take a pregnancy test. She waited until the evening to take the test with her husband.
—Positive— said William with a big smile. The two melted into a big hug as they laughed. It was a wanted baby so of course they were very happy.
As they lay in bed, the woman thought about how different these last two times had been compared to the first, in which they were both terribly frightened.
—When are we going to tell the children?— whispered the duchess as Victoria ate her breakfast quietly watching television, oblivious to what her parents were talking about.
—Today after school— he suggested with a smile, making his wife nod.
Victoria hadn't been very happy at first with George's arrival, but over the months they had learned to get along better with him and she always played with him after school. So her parents thought she would be happy to have a sibling.
The adults and little George went to pick up the brunette from school, which seemed very strange to her, as normally only one of them or her nanny would go.
—Do you want to get some ice cream?— asked William and the girl nodded enthusiastically. She sensed that something was going on as it wasn't Friday and she wasn't allowed to eat ice cream on weekdays.
The family of four took a seat in an ice cream parlour on the outskirts of London. The seven-year-old noticed how her parents laughed more than usual when they looked at each other, which made her happy.
—George doesn't eat ice cream?— asked Victoria, savouring her strawberry and cream ice cream.
—He can't yet, in a few months he will be able to— replied her mother and the brunette pouted.
—I'm sorry Georgie— she stroked her hair, making her parents' hearts melt and giving them the confidence they needed to think that Victoria would be the happiest with the news.
When they got home William and Kate sat their two children down on the sofa opposite them to tell them the big news.
-Papa and I have something very important to tell you— she said with a big smile and the two of them held hands.
—Mummy has a baby in her belly— announced the man, making the girl look very surprised. She had not expected to receive this news as she thought her family was complete.
The duke and duchess looked at each other with concern as they had no reaction from their first born. —Are you happy Vicky?— questioned Kate, pulling the girl out of her trance, who nodded —Give me a hug— the princess went straight into her mother's arms.
—When is he born?— asked William as he hugged George, who didn't understand what was going on.
—End of April or beginning of May— the woman explained.
The duke and duchess spent the whole afternoon talking about their new baby, which was quite overwhelming for Victoria. Although she had begun to get along better with her brother by this time, it didn't take away from the fact that she felt ignored by her parents. She would know that babies needed attention, so two babies even more so and she knew she was going to have to be even more independent.
—Goodnight Kika— William tucked her in and kissed her forehead.
The seven year old tried to fall asleep but couldn't as she couldn't stop thinking about what her new life with another sibling would be like. Ever since George had been born he had felt invisible to both his parents and his family.
