James POV

"Are you falling for James, Lily?" Marlene asked.

I looked up at Lily. She had the slightest of blushes on her face, but she denied it. "What, no! I have an evil streak, too you know?" she said indignantly.

I felt my heart fall. Maybe I had imagined the blush forming upon her cheeks. But Marlene, Alice and Mary were reliable, and I could count on them to tell me the truth later. We were surprised that Lily hadn't blabbed on us, but still grateful. Someone from Slytherin really annoyed recently, then. I decided I wanted to start a snowball fight, even though we were all confined to the common room. It wouldn't be suitable on school grounds, though. I got thinking and decided if one of us could convince Lily, then all nine of us (if Frank wanted to come), would go to Hogsmeade through the tunnel. I also decided that if we were to go, we had to go now.

"I think we should go to Hogsmeade," I said.

Everyone in our small group looked at me. Lily had a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Lily won't let us go," Alice moaned.

"Hey! I haven't said anything yet. Besides I did just tell you all I had an evil streak."

I couldn't help but smile.

"How are we going to get there, though," said Frank, who had apparently heard the last bit of our conversation.

The Marauders and I shared a knowing smile.

We snuck out of the common room, some with excuses, some who had borrowed the invisibility cloak. Everyone came to meet on the third floor, at the statue of Gunhilda of Gorsemoor, where our secret passage we called 'The One-Eyed Witch Passageway', was. Remus pulled out his wand and muttered;

"Dissendium."

Murmurs of amazement came from everyone's mouths as the witch's hump opened. I hoisted people up one by one, as I was the tallest, then climbed into the tunnel. I slid down and began the long journey to Hogsmeade. Remus, Sirius and Peter were leading the way, and we all began telling them to hurry up otherwise who knows how long it would've taken us. If I walk at normal pace, the journey is an hour's walk, but everyone, it seemed was eager to get there, and the pace was a lot faster.

(AN: Sorry I decided to skip the snowball fight and the walk back, but I wanted Jily fluff)

Lily POV

Potter and I chatted all of the way back to the common room. It was surprisingly nice, like a lot of things had been with him recently. We were currently talking about our teachers and which ones we would fire, given the chance.

"...So I think probably Professor Priffle, because ya know, Divination teachers are airheads."

"Why do you even take that class?" I asked.

"Because... I dunno. I don't really know what I wanna be yet, and... yeah I have no excuse for why I take that class."

I laughed softly.

"You better pick what you want to be soon, otherwise you're not going to have a career!"

"What do you want to be then, Evans."

So we were still on a last name basis. But I guess I was fine with that.

"A healer."

"That's why you still take Herbology, then."

"Yup."

At dinner everyone was alight with talk of the prank on the Slytherin's. It was quite amusing, and I was surprised Professor McGonagall didn't see straight through my lie. James sat down next to me and began talking about the 'mysterious' prankers. A couple of minutes later after his conversation was finished, and no I wasn't eaves-dropping, he leant into me. Maybe I had eaves-dropped. A tiny bit.

"You did us a solid," he whispered.

His messy hair brushed against my face, tickling me. I did a slight giggle and turned my head to face him.

"You're welcome. Now can you get your head and hair out of my face Potter."

It wasn't a question. And he did as I said, too. After we had our dinner dessert appeared on the table. And someone in Slytherin robes walked past us, dropping custard on us. I turned to look and saw Severus' greasy hair.

"What was that for?"

"Thought your boyfriend could use some payback," he said.

Then I rounded on him.

"Ok, well first of all, you got me too, second of all, he's not my boyfriend, and third, what makes you think he did it!"

"Well the fact that basically every prank in this school is traced back to him somehow. And I wasn't aiming for you, Lily, because whether you like it or not, I'm still your friend."

I scoffed.

"Well, the funny thing about both of those comments is that I was patrolling the corridors near your common room last night and he wasn't there, and that I don't like it so you're NOT my friend. And you will never be my friend, because," I said, mimicking his tone, "whether you like it or not, I will NEVER forget it, so you can't take it back."

"But-,"

"Don't but me, you heard me the first time did you not?! You said to James and I quote, 'I don't need help from a filthy little mudblood like her.' I'm sorry but what part of that does not scream to someone they need new friends?"

My chest heaved up and down in anger, and I noticed to my left James was standing up. He looked down at me, and I realised how much taller he was than me.

"Lily..." he said, pulling on the sleeves of my robe.

I did the tiniest of gasps, realising he had used my first name. He looked me in the eye and the words they told me were unforgettable. I'm going to ask you out because it'll piss him off to no end. And this time I was going to let him ask me.

"Yes, James," I said now with fake annoyance in my voice. I winked subtly at him, letting him know I knew what he was going to do.

"Will you go out with me?"

Snape's face burned red. It was unmistakable that James had annoyed him now. But what was my reply going to be? I hadn't really thought about it. Would I pretend I was annoyed, or would I consider it. I was running out of time.

"Um..." I stuttered, then made up my mind, "How about I consider it?"

Snape walked off in utmost frustration. And it was absolutely beautiful. Not him, James. No wait... what! FML.
