You expected to jump into a street full of people or crash into an alley, but you guys jumped into a very inconvenient situation. You and Lukas were standing in the middle of someone's cramped apartment-on top of their dinner table to be exact. Papers and thin books were flying around with the surge of magic slowly dying down. Lukas was holding you tight before you could fall over on the floor. There was squashed fruit under your shoes and a little shih tzu barking below the table. The kettle on top of the stove was whistling loud while the rice cooker was beeping its warning music that it was done. The worst of the situation was the fact that the small balcony was open with the apartment's owner looking at you both in shock as he drops his cigarette on the concrete floor.
"Umm... hi?" You smiled sheepishly and waved.
His dog continued barking frantically at the two intruders on top of his table. The owner started yelling in Cantonese and a bit of english. It doesn't take two and two to understand him despite the language barrier. You and Lukas were literally standing on top of his dining table with your shoes on and were strangers in his own home. His yelling matched the mood of his own boiling kettle, the sound of his rice cooker going off, and the constant barking of his own dog. You couldn't tell if you were scared of being in trouble or if you were overwhelmed by the sounds.
"Lukas?" You pleaded for some help.
"On it."
With a snap of his fingers, everything in the apartment froze. From the flying pieces of unreadable literature to the owner's angry sitcom-like expression, everything was frozen in place. Everything outside the apartment though still sounded like the day was going on as usual. The steam coming from the kettle froze as well, and that intrigued you more than the fact that living beings inside were frozen.
Lukas helped you down from the table. You looked around the apartment to marvel the frozen space he made. You felt like you were in those installation art exhibits where everyone had some kind of gimmick with their works to make them look like they were frozen in the air. You walked through the flying papers as if they were just like the leaves in the autumn forest, except there was not much color. You look at the papers and grabbed one that caught your attention. It wasn't in english, but the photo of a man you knew caught your eye.
Yao Wang, Leon's older brother. You remembered him from your first year when he would constantly call Leon during untimely hours and had visited a lot. His constant visits revealed that Leon's family was very rich-and by rich, you mean rich rich. They were old rich kind that had properties and investments through their numerous ventures as a business-powered family. The only time Leon actually told you that his family was "comfortable" was during that wedding shoot he hired you and Nick for. Talk about a surprise of a lifetime when you stepped into the venue with Nick and seeing that they had guests who were socialites and high positioning officials.
"I have a question, and probably more later on." You looked at Lukas. "Where are we and why here?"
Lukas was using his magic to place things to the way they probably were before you landed in the poor man's apartment; magazines back on their respective surfaces, fixing broken plates and placing them back, the fruits squashed being cleaned, and the dog's spilled food and water being changed and refilled.
"You probably know Emil and his boyfriend, Leon." Lukas says aloud as he opened books to see which goes first on the shelf. "Well, Leon's family is ome of the oldest sorcerer clans in Asia."
"You're joking?" You arched a brow. "Leon Wang, the arsonist of our batch, is involve with magic?"
Lukas whipped his head at you-eyes wide in shock at your statement.
