Chapter 4

The next day I decided that I needed to get out of my house for awhile. Since I felt like I needed some fresh air, I went to the beach that was nearby. I dressed in a grey sweater and black skinny jeans. To top it all off, I wore some old combat boots. I know, I know, that isn't beach wear, but I don't feel like wearing a bikini or even wearing colors other than black or grey. I grabbed my purse off of the table and left, not even bothering to say bye to my dad.

Since the beach wasn't far away, I just walked. I basically walked everywhere, it was relaxing. Halfway there, I stopped to get Starbucks.

"Hey, can I get a grande caramel frappe?" I asked, not even looking at who I was talking to.

"Sure, that'll be $4.68. Your name?"

"It's Kaley." I replied sighing and glancing up, while handing him the money. Oh my god, it was Jake from yesterday. How could he already be working here? He said he was new to the area. I hoped that he hasn't seen me look up because I didn't want him to try and have a conversation with me. Besides, maybe there are a ton of Kaley's around California.

"Alright, thanks Kaley, your order will be out soon." Jake said, not even looking at me as he went to go make my coffee.

I only stood there for about 2 minutes when my order was ready, Jake started walking towards me with my frappe, when he finally realized who I was.

"Kaley! I didn't even realize it was you, sorry I didn't notice earlier, I have a ton on my mind."

"It's fine. I'm just on my way to the beach. So I'll just be going. Bye." I replied quickly grabbing my coffee and turning to walk out.

"No, wait! I get off in about 10 minutes, would you mind waiting for me to get off, and maybe we could go to the beach together?" He asked smiling at me. I didn't smile back.

"Um, actually, I don't think so. Sorry." I quickly turned and walked out so that he wouldn't have time to say anything back. I must really seem like a bitch, but I just didn't want to hang out or talk to anyone.

When I got to the beach, I found an area that looked nice and sat down in the sand. I took off my boots and dug my toes into it. It felt so nice. I never really go to the beach often, but that needs to change. I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath. As I sat there with my eyes closed, my toes in the sand, and hearing the ocean, I could've swore I heard someone calling my name. But I ignored it, it must be my imagination.

"Kaley!"

I opened my eyes and looked around, I hadn't noticed but the beach had a ton of people on it today. I swore I heard my name being called, but I didn't see anyone that I knew. So I closed my eyes again and relaxed. I heard somebody sit close to me, but I didn't open my eyes, I ignored whoever it was. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder.

"Hey, I thought I'd be able to catch up to you, but it was really hard with all of these people here!" Jake said with a huge smile. That smile was starting to grow on me, it was kind of cute. But I shook the thought from my head, I wouldn't let myself think any nice thoughts about him.

"Well, you found me." I replied with a straight face.

"Yea, I did." He said still smiling at me. Why was he so smiley? Nobody could be happy all of the time. It just wasn't possible. I decided not to reply, considering I didn't know how to reply.

I closed my eyes again and decided to just lay down. Shortly after I laid down, I heard Jake lay down too. Why was he still here? I'm sure he's already had girls hit on him and he could be hanging out with them and getting smiles out of them, but he wanted to hang out with me. Weird.
