The tension is evident as you pass Steve in the hall, smiling stiffly and he returns the gesture with a soft "good evening," and you carry on.

You've known each other for a few months now, and you're pretty sure that you like him. But you're not sure if your feels are reproached.

He's always dismissing the topic of dating and settling down, which discourages you and you end up trying less and less to show that you have feelings about him.

70 years of being frozen defiantly doesn't give anyone the upper hand on dating advice, especially now in the 21 century.

You're jerked from your thoughts when a hand clamps down on your shoulder. Not thinking twice, you grab their wrist and twist it as you whirl around.

"Ow, ow, ow!" Steve cries, rubbing his wrist when you let go with a gasp.

"Oh my god, Steve! Sorry, I'm really sorry! Did I hurt you?- Well, it's obvious I did. But you'll be okay, right? Your super healing will kick in at any moment, right? Unless-"

"(Y/n)," Steve laughs, giving you a warm smile. "I'm fine, don't worry. And nice grip you've got there,"

Blushing lightly, you say, "Thanks, Cap," Then silence settles between you two, and you awkwardly smile and he returns it. "Oh! Was there something you needed?"

"What?"

You laugh. "You approached me, remember?"

He raises his eyebrows. "Oh-oh, yeah, right. Ah, about that.."

"Yes?"

"Do you like me?"

His question leaves you slightly confused. "What?"

Steve has never looked so uncomfortable in all your years of knowing him. "I mean, how do you feel about me?"

"I, uh.. don't know how to answer that?" You squeak, and he all but sighs exasperatedly.

"Never mind,"

"Wait! Steve-" But he's already down the hall and disappearing into a room.

It's been about a week since you've talked to Steve, and when you even attempt to meet his eyes, he'd blush up to his ears and scuttle out the room.

Then on one particular day as you're heading to your car, you're surprised to see Steve leaning against it with his arms crossed.

"Steve?"

His head shoots up and a blush trails up his cheeks and down his neck.

Whoa.

"U-Uh, hey, (Y/n)?"

You sigh softly. "Look, Steve, I've got to head home. I have a ton of work-"

"Right, right." He pushes himself off your car and begins to walk away.

"What is up with you?" You ask before you can stop yourself, and Steve goes rigid.

"What's up with me?" He growls unexpectedly loud, and you stand back in shock. His widened blue eyes meet yours. "I have been driving myself crazy for weeks trying to figure out how to tell you- Christ, I don't know, to proclaim my feelings for you or whatever people are doing now days?"

"Steve.."

"And then I don't even know how to look at you without turning into a blushing school girl! I mean, look at me, I'm not made for this. I'm meant to fight in wars, not to ask women on dates!"

The only thing you manage is a small huff. "Well aren't you dramatic,"

He gaps at you. "That's the first thing you're telling me after all of that?"

"How about a date?"

He blinks. "A da- wait, what?"

"Y'know, a date? Dinner and a movie or something so I can "proclaim my feelings" for you as well? Or do you prefer I tell you now?"

A smile breaks out across his face. "Well, there's no time like the present, right?"
