Incredibly the curse was lasting much longer than expected. . .but like. . .suspiciously longer than expected. To the point where every day you woke up with the belief that your time had come only to see the ceiling of your bedroom. You had no idea why it was taking so long but you're certainly not complaining.
You have to admit though that life on the surface is quite strange compared to what you were used to, and even though Laios had been proclaimed King, the situation was more aesthetic than practical. And so it became your job. Being a personal guard of the king was more of a decoration than a real task, especially since you were the only knight in the entire castle.
Nowadays, it's better to hire soldiers. . .not that you're a bit jealous or anything. . . (yes you are, they stole your fucking job after all) but the problem is...you were starting to get bored doing nothing.
As a result, you had started wandering around the streets of Melini in search of some work that could fill your day and where you could show off your skills. And that's why you ended up in front of a noodle shop, which had sprung up overnight in the middle of the square. Something about it had intrigued you and so you decided that it was time for lunch.
"Good morning–" once you pushed the curtains aside and your eyes took in the surroundings, your body suddenly froze. A black eye blinked at the sight of your presence, the two crossed arms made no sign of releasing to return your frozen greeting. “Morning,” a monotonous voice repeated, which was the only thing that filled the silence inside the empty noodle shop.
You blinked.
He blinked.
"So. . .what do you want?"
Those words made you snap out of your shock and a huge smile replaced your gaping lips. "Commander!" The words came out without thinking and immediately you made your way towards the gray-haired elf you hadn't seen in such a long time. "What a surprise! What are you doing here in Melini? I thought you Canaries had gone home." Seeing one of your old allies always brought a smile to your face, especially when it came to Mithrun. After all, you and him were pretty much the same in terms of behavior, the only difference was that you felt too much and he felt nothing.
This was something you had only come to realize after all that mess with the demon was over and you had allowed yourself a second to reflect on the events that had transpired. Like Mithrun you had just one objective. Like Mithrun you would have done everything to reach your goal. Like Mithrun you were stubborn as fuck. Like Mithrun the demon saw your borderline obsessive behavior and exploited however he wanted.
But unlike him you cared too much. You cared too much about your friends, you cared too much about your family and that quickly overwhelmed you until you were choking on your responsibilities and ignoring your well-being. Meanwhile he cared too little, not bothering with how his actions would effect those around him, especially himself.
After that night you always felt a need to meet him again, to talk to him again, hidden inside your heart. He could be - or rather no, he is the only person who can understand your suicidal tendencies regarding a mission and he is the only one who can understand what you felt towards the demon.
So to say you were ecstatic at the sight of the elf was an understatement.
"I recently moved. . .Pattadol insisted that a change of scenery would help me in my search for desires" Since the last time you saw him, Mithrun hadn't changed much, still with his cold aura that he carries with him and that black eye that either scans your soul or is lost in nothingness. “A noodle shop, huh?” you chuckled, making yourself comfortable on one of the stools in front of the counter. “Kabru’s idea.”
