Chapter 82: Riding for a Fall (part 1)
🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
[At the Gilbert household, Elliot walks around the living room and into the kitchen holding a riding helmet, excitement filling his features. Lisa was in the kitchen at the fridge and Emma sat on the other side of the bar on a stool doing her homework.]
Elliot: "This is so cool. I can't wait to get my own horse."
"No way. I'm getting a horse?!" Elliot asked with exhilaration. "A horse? I have fish, and he gets a horse?" Cleo repeated in shock. "Cleo, you wanted the fish," Don said. "You're kidding," Emma frowned. I couldn't get a pony, but he could get a horse? Not that I want one. "Uh no, no. No, no," Neil wagged his finger as he leaned forward in his seat. "Aww. That would've been cool," Kim pouted. She would've loved to have ridden a horse. "Is this his birthday or Christmas or something? For him to be getting a gift like that, it has to be," Zane said with a raised brow. "You're one to talk. You got a zodiac when you were twelve," Rikki gave him a look. "A horse at his age isn't too bad. I got my first one at ten," Ash shrugged. Then again, he was raised around them; Elliot wasn't. "I can assure you he's not getting a horse. But I do have an inkling as to where this is going," Lisa grinned at Elliot. He's been asking about it for a while.
Lisa: laughs as she closes the fridge. Elliot comes closer to her. "Slow down. We only agreed to these lessons to see if you like riding, nothing was mentioned about owning your own horse." Holds her hands up in caution then walks over to the sink.
"Well, at least I finally get to take lessons," Elliot said, still sounding hopeful.
"If you're not sure if he will like it or not, then why sign him up?" Sam asked. "Because he's been asking for a while, and we deemed it only fair since Emma got to take swimming lessons nearly her whole life, while Elliot just started doing soccer and this. We've been searching for a while and finally found a place for a reasonable price. We figured a few lessons will let him know how much responsibility it would be to do this and if he was determined or not. We just signed him up right before coming here," Lisa admitted; Ash's eyes beamed with life, hoping it was his ranch.
"There goes the surprise. And yes Zane, it was for his birthday," Neil chuckled, the brunette male smiling smugly at his girlfriend.
"Baby steps, Elliot. Maybe one day you can," Will smiled at him.
Emma: raised her brows, unamused. "Don't hold your breath, Elliot. Dad promised me a pony for years and it still hasn't arrived." Looks at Lisa with a small smug grin.
"Why do you gotta be a buzzkill?" Ash complained. "He doesn't need to get his hopes up if someone can't keep a promise," Emma gave her dad a look. "I did get you a pony," Neil frowned. "A toy pony doesn't count," Emma scowled, glaring at Rikki and Lewis who wouldn't stop snickering. "You were six. I'm not getting a six-year-old a pony she was afraid of," Neil retorted. Emma's eyes widened. "You were scared of ponies?" Lewis's snickering turned into a fit of questionable laughter. "I was not!" she hollered, face red.
Lisa: gasped. "To be fair, Emma, the last time you were on a pony, you were petrified of it." Elliot grins on the other side of the bar, nodding.
The room burst into fits of laughter, except for her and Cleo and her parents who knew of her fear and felt bad for her, the latter's face growing red even more. "Oh, this is great! This is a great start," Rikki said through her laughter. "Don't laugh. It's reasonable to have strange fears," Cleo slapped her arm. "Ponies? You're scared of ponies?" Ash looked at her in disbelief. "I can't believe you're scared of ponies," Charlotte giggled. "Honey, you have no room to laugh. Do I need to remind you what your still fear is?" Annette rose a brow, shutting Charlotte up. "I hope you weren't traumatized at Cleo's birthday party then," Kim teased. "Kim, leave her alone," Bev scolded. "I wasn't scared," Emma rolled her eyes.
